I agree that its more due to revenue than anything else. At this time not enough people go to the games to make a long series profitable. Maybe in the future the league will grow enough make it at least a best of five.
I started watching the WNBA this season and was pleasantly surprised with the quality of basketball that these ladies play. The players display a lot of good fundamental basketball and the games are quite competitive.
I hope the league continues to thrive, and the people who keep bashing the league to actually take the time to watch these ladies play their hearts out, something that many NBA players appear to lack.

Because the WNBA season is very short (4 months). There isn't enough support from TV networks or fans to make the series longer.
The NBA playoffs and finals used to be 3 games series. When NBA became more popular they made it into a 5 games series and now it's a 7 games series.
More popularity = more games
WNBA is getting more popular every year.... Finals are now 5 games series.... someday women will play as many games as the NBA.

They simply don't generate the revenue to make it worthwhile to play more games. Add in the NFL season is always coming up and other summer events are occuring and you have your answer.
