I'd say buy a new one. At that age you'll also have parts wearing out in addition to the upgrade expenses. Plus, as computers get older the parts become obsolete and more expensive than newer equivalents. You can get a cheap new computer for under $500, or spend more for something even faster and nicer. You'll definitely appreciate the difference in speed and quality. You may even be able to get a free monitor and printer as part of a package deal.

My suggestion would be for you to follow through and be consistent. It may not seem like a lot to right now but as the week progresses, she'll have ample time to think things over. Take advantage of this week to talk to her, as a parent you've already established your discipline, now talk to her as a friend, explain to her why she should behave in school, let her see the advantages and disadvantages of the choices she's made. be consistent, address the issue every time she misbehaves at school. Realize that if you are having these problems now, and they go unresolved the problems will only get worse, and the one who will be affected most is your daughter. I applaud you in making her responsible for her own actions and choices. If she seems unfazed by this at the end of the week, I would consider maybe cutting into her allowance, time with friends, cell phone if she has one, computer time, but more than punish, start talking to your daughter about choices and consequences to those choices she is starting a very difficult time in life and you want to make sure she knows you love her and want the best for her. Be consistent, even at times when she doesn't understand why you are"punishing" her. Think that you can guide her with love, once she is out in the real world she will find no loving guide, you want to make sure you prepared her the best you could so that when she goes out there, she makes good choices in life. hope all goes well. I'll keep an eye out for you.... best wishes, and God bless....

Actually, you will need a monitor and printer with any PC, so that is not a upgrade cost. If it will accept 1 GB of RAM, I would do that . If you shop around, you can get it for your 60 bucks. One exception: If your processor is not at least 1 GHZ, go for the new one. You can advertise yours for about $100 and maybe get lucky. Age doesn't matter if it does the job you need it for.

That old, just invest in a new system, I recommend this to all my customers, due to the fact that all newer upgrade parts are not compatible with older systems and is not worth the time and money. I refurb older systems and donate them to none profits for those who can't purchase a computer.

Would need more specs (processor, speed, RAM, hard drive, etc) to answer for sure, but if it really is 9 years old, it is a dinosaur.

Almost $300 to upgrade that one, or $500 for a new one....

Go with the new one!!!

That is NOT a real upgrade. You still have a miserably SLOW aging machine.

Buy a new one. Consider something with these specs:

Considering the age of your computer, I would opt for buying a new one. They are't that expensive. But the choice is your's.

If you replace those items, you'd still have a 9-year-old computer. Replace it.
