My daughter is 2 months old tomorrow. I just got the umbilical cord report back and it showed that there were only two blood vessles instead of the normal three. The report said due to abnormal umbilical cord, careful evaluation of the infant for possible associaed congenital abnormalites is advised. My daughter has not showed any signs of having problems. At birth she was given an apgar score of 9 both at 1 minute and at 5. Did your baby have only two blood vessels? If my daughter did have problems would they have picked up on it by now? We're going to her doctor tomorrow for her two month appointment. But I'm freaking out now. Please help.

I'm sure everything is fine. It's true that a 3 vessel cord is optimal for a healthy baby, but many healthy babies are born with just a 2 vessel cord. Don't stress out, by now you'd know if something was seriously wrong.

She may be a little underweight because of the lower nutrient flow, but as long as she's developing I wouldn't worry. You should, however, bring this up with her doctor at the appointment so a more thorough diagnosis process can confirm that she is healthy.
