I know that it seems harsh not to give your grandchildren and great-grandchildren any money in your will, but we don't know what goes on in their family - there might be a reason why the kids didn't get any inheritance. Families have all sorts of drama going on, and I'm sure the Helmsley's aren't exempt.
However, if you're going to cut your family members out of your will, I think there are plenty of things you can do with the money that are better than leaving 12 million to your dog!!!
Even if this dog lives into the 20s and has operations and treatment for medical conditions, it won't require more than 1 million. I don't know what she was thinking! It's not like the dog actually spends the money - who ever is caring for it does! And why would you give 12 million to a random dog-sitter who will most probably abuse it?
In my opinion, she should have given 1 million to the dog and the remaining 11 mil to the ASPCA or any other animal charity. That way her dog would be taken care of, and thousands of others would be as well!

I think it's horrible.
Fine, if she wants to set aside some money for the dog's burial and care, etc., after her death, that would be okay, but to leave $12 million dollars. Is she insane! She was a very mean spirited person.
Granted, we don't know the situation about the grandkids, but still, they are her blood, you think she would have thought twice, regardless of what they did.
Crazy, crazy lady!
My question is, when the dog dies, who gets his money? Does it go to his "heirs-at-law"...haha

I think she lived up to her name 'Queen of Mean' and should we really be so surprised? Two of her grandchildren did get money, while two others didn't - for reasons known to them I believe was what the will said. At the same time, what I really think, it was her money, she had every right to dictate who/what should get the money upon her demise and I'm going to guess the two grandchildren that got nothing must have really done something to piss her off.
To answer someone else's question (I was bored on my lunch break and the story piqued my curiosity) when the dog dies, it is to be buried next to her, she has set aside I think $3M for the upkeep of her mausoleam (including it being steam cleaned once a month or something). But when the dog dies, whatever is left over is given to whatever charitable foundation she had set up (originally set up as a tax I'm sure).
Oh, and she also put some conditions on the grand children who did get money - they must visit their father's grave (her son) at least once a year or they're cut off.

This has to be Leona's way of flipping one last bird at the world !! She was a genuine witch and really didn't like anyone at all -- and the feeling was generally mutual !!
My quiz point here, would be, who was appointed as the dog's "executor" --- now THAT'S the primier job of a lifetime for a dog handler -- you know ?? Or, it would be enough to turn some lawyer INTO a dog handler with very little added incentives --- huh ??
And, in answer to CONFUSED's question of who gets the money when the dog "passes" ----- it will probably go to Bitchs' Anonomous --- in a memorial TO Leona !!!!!!!!!

As I have said in other questions- Her money and her right to do what she wants. Most of the questions mention the dog and dont mention the bulk of her estate went to charity. We dont know the reason the grandchildren were left out. The will stated they know why and that is good enough for me.

Maybe her grandchildren never called. I bet she got her point across.
P.S. I'm leaving my money to my cat.

That is beyond being the "Queen of Mean" but I can't say that here, it would get censored. That was something that is just downright beyond rude.
