Its not the whiskers, is the bottom jaw. i think it did get frightend since there is a cichlid on the otherside of the tank divider. It looks swollen and kinda red like a blood vessel. my brother said the jumped like 7x and hit the top of the tank, he said it was funny but i dont know i was asleep

It looks like a bit of minor brusing and swelling no doubt from the recent fall. It looks very minor and should heal with no problems in a few days to a week.

Is it a kind of fluid filled sack around the mouth? Like a water bubble under the skin.
I have been told this is due to a virus, no cure for viruses, but I don't think this is fatal. Acts like herpes, comes and goes?
Anyway the jumping is what I'm concerned with. Its usually an attempt to flee bad water. Check your nitrates they should not be over 20 ppm.
Is this a pond fish in a tank? The koi is a little large to be in a tank full time. You will have a hard time maintaining water quality with a fish that size in any home aquarium.
Post what size tank and water perameters too if you would.

Hi Ecko, your fish is lovely! I think there may be some minor damage to the skin on his lower jaw-almost certainly nothing to worry about in itself but I would check your parameters-jumping is sure sign of bad water conditions & it may also be an idea to salt his tank for a few days about 0.5% to help it heal, the attached link gives some advice about concentrations.

Aw, this is so sweet! You're worried about your fish, which is great, but there's nothing to worry about. This is one of the distinguishing features of a koi. Are you asking about those things hanging down? They're called "barbels." They are a sort of sensitive whisker that helps in their search for food on the bottom of the pond or body of water that they are being kept in.

If there is something else you are worried about, it's difficult to tell with these pictures? Describe what it is you're looking at, i.e., red streaks, white patches, holes in the skin, etc.

is it in there by itself?

he may have gotten frightened and hit the tank which happens all the time. was jus curious if he maybe had a spat with another fish, but if there is a decent size difference i doubt it. looks and sounds to me like thats the case. ive seen big bala sharks with flat faces from hitting the tank. as long as he is eating..i wouldnt worry about it, it should heal up.

Can you give more info and description on exactly what it looks like, etc.? Can't tell much from the pictures at this point. Here is also a website you can check out to see if you can get any info off of it:

http://www.koiandponds.com/koidiseases.htm

Try to give us more info and maybe someone can help (even describe appetite changes, poo changes/color, etc. can help)

Good luck.
