It all depends on if you want to keep a friendly relationship with him and vise versa.

If you cant stand him and dont want anything to do with him, then just keep your distance from him. You dont need to behave coldly toward him. Just keep a distance. If you run into him, be civil and if he say hi, how are you. Say fine and you?
