It is simple psychology. If you are worried where your next meal is coming from then you will not have time to fight for political gain. Since Reagan took power we are slowly going back to the times of the robber barons. It all started with Reagan and the Republicans have been gaining power to do more for the rich and to hold down or eliminate the middle class. It is time we fight back. Despite what they say, it is class warfare and we have been losing for nearly 30 years.
P.S. Don't believe that wages are up. We have been losing at least 2% a year since Bush took office. And higher minimum wage does not cause job loss; that is a bugaboo that cons love to spread but it is just not true!

You must be confused. It is the democrat party that pushed for higher taxes for health care, and for gasoline. It is the democrat party that has caused the food prices to increase because of their blind support of corn based ethanol. The increase in the minimum wage will help my high school aged daughter make an extra buck or two at the dairy queen, unfortunately the owner of that store will not be able to hire her friends because of the increased labor costs. As a working class guy I have made out well with the Bush tax cuts which were opposed by the democrats. Just how is it that the republicans have hurt the working class? Rather than spouting democrat and union talking point, perhaps an example of what you call hurt would help

Saying the minimum wage increase helps working class america is the biggest load of Cr@p.
Anyone with any brains, motivation, and work ethic could start at a minimum wage job and increase their salary within 6 months by working hard, proving their worth to the company, and impressing the management.
The real affect of an increased minimum wage is fewer entry level jobs for inexperienced workers. If companies have to offer a starting salary of $8 an hour instead of $6, they will be less inclined to hire someone new with no experience. The very poorest worker who was supposed to be helped will lose their job and the person who was a sucessful hard worker at $6 and would have naturally been given a raise anyway, will be the one who is kept at $8 an hour.
An increased minimum wage also hurts the small businesses that provide many of the jobs in the first place.
A minimum wage served its purpose when it was introduced, but with the wealth of opporitunities available today (such as free education through high school) a minimum wage law has no benefits. The markets will naturally adjust salaries to reflect a persons value to the company regardless of any laws in place. It's called supply and demand, and it's a proven concept that works pretty well.

Sounds like you need to sit down and do your homework before you spout off.
When I first went to work many years ago, taxes and all that were new to me but my supervisor pointed something out to me. She was once a Republican but for some weird reason, became a Democrat and even SHE could not explain why after she told me this.
When Democrats take office, taxes will skyrocket and you lose part of your paycheck to cover all these extra expenses for programs they put in to help others (many do not deserve the help because they are perfectly able to work).
Democrats want to take care of everyone whether they deserve it or not ~ that's how they get their votes.
When Republicans take office, they cut taxes and put it back into the taxpayers pocket.
Republicans want people to learn to take care of themselves and quit living off the generosity of the taxpayers who are taxed to death as it is.
Now as you continue to grow up, pay close attention and learn as I did. What she told me is true.

As a person of the middle class, my life is better under the republicans.
Less tax
Less inflation.
I actually have some money to invest.
and when I sell those investments I dont get clobbered with huge capital gains.
I bought my first house during the Carter admin. 12 3/4 % !!! interest rate!
My next home under Bush was at 6.5 %
Dems always are after my wallet.

It's sad, but it's true: the fact is, people are corrupted. They get into arguments about silly things, they are jealous of and mad at each other. Not everyone. Wise people know what their values are, but wise people never get into power because they don't stoop to the low level of million-dollar advertising campaigns, glossy lies, and voting fraud. The rich idiots in power lie to the citizens of America so that they can look better than they really are, and the public, most of whom are gullible, swallow it hook and line and sinker and reel. The wise people don't swallow it, but the REALLY wise people act up, write, and protest. When people become more aware of their surroundings, stop eating junk food and playing video games, then, we will see a glorious day of revolution. Amen. Woyaya. Hallelujiah. Praise the Lord. May I live to see the day.

I am part of that working class.
Health care is MY responsibility.
Dems love to raise taxes and even run their platform on it.
I pay $2.50 per gallon for gas. The Government makes 100% profit on the tax on gas.
I pay little for food, even when it is name brand.
I get pay raises for my job.
Congress is a failure and the Dems sealed the deal on complete failure taking majority.
I am in the lower middle class and I live in this country, I don't hurt others.
Liberals give labels.

What have the Democrats done for the middle class?
Certainly the min wage increase, didn't help the middle class.
Now, just exactly what have the Republicans done to hurt the middle class ?
Did they increase their tax's ?? nope
Partisan rhetoric does no one any good.
So unless you can cite specifics, keep the rhetoric to yourself.

a higher minimum wage could work if inflation was quelled.
You're absolutely right though. I may be getting a higher amount in my paycheck now but my take-home pay is exactly the same. And my fuel has tripled in price since Thanksgiving of '01.

Wow, that must be some good Kook-aid. Here's an idea, why don't you go back to school and pass math and economics this time. Then do some research to learn who wants to help the middle class (low taxes, deregulation, competition) and who wants to destroy the middle class (high taxes, heavy regulation, government monopolies, artificial wages, punitive business laws).
We'll welcome you back to reality whenever you are ready to join us.
