against Fugazi for inventing emo? Someone has to held accountable. Sure it sounds crazy. However, I think it has more merit than that recent dry–cleaning case. I place my life and everyone else around me in grave danger when I have to take my eyes off the road to switch off Welcome to the Black Parade or I Write Sins Not Tragedies. Plus, we are not even mentioning the pain and suffering bad music causes. We could reap a windfall in punitive damages.

Prof & Sookie - I feel bad for Fugazi, they couldn't have had intent. No one could have imagined how the evolution would go down. Their music couldn't have been farther from MCR, yet there is that silly label.

Norcekri & Sven B - You thought this was serious, didn't you? C'mon fess up.

Anchovy - I agree with you to an extent. However, the rest of the world keeps it topical by playing it, talking about it, praising it, etc. This might be the one for a while (maybe). :-)

Compgremlin - Your bosses can't be too happy to have you on their computers after cleaning toilets all day. Go learn some English before you embarrass yourself any further.

BuzzKill - The only Post-anything that's any good is the breakfast cereal. Those terms are painfully ridiculous.

Awww, man. I bet Ian MacKaye feels bad enough for giving the whiney upper-middle class kids a platform. I mean, do you think he wanted to create that monster. He just wanted to yell at people who were overly capitalistic and jerks.

I'd go after Unwound, they in my opinion are more closely related to those bands and as good as they were I hear they are whiney little b#tches too.

I am dazzled by compgremlin's intelligence. I feel lightheaded. Man, nothing like someone calling me gay to make me feel like I've been truly dissed....and not an I sexed your mama joke.

Apparently not. Only the highest caliber of insults that bite straight to the bone from today's youth.

Much respect to you but I'm getting a little tired of the Emo questions now. Every generation has good and bad music. I know the music I liked when I was a teenager was quite often criticised.

My point is, I hate Emo but I care so little about it that I can't even be bothered to talk about it anymore. Some people do like it though, sure, they are not real music fans at the moment but it is probably a better stepping stone than say, N'Sync.

It made me laugh when you said 'it' places other peoples lives in danger - because you have to take your eyes off the road...

I'd rather go after the a** face that came up with the term "emo" - something tells me it may be the same person who came up with "grunge" and putting "post" before other music genres. Let's sue THAT douche bag.

I'd add Pain and Suffering. It needs to happen, it's a tragic state this world of Pop and Roll.

Only in America...lol

Maybe you could sue for wrongful damage to the ear.
and citing a Willful disregard to music..(you will have to prove you actually know what music is) here is the Grey area...art is art whether it be music or paint or any other medium...hell people even flatulate to songs and that gets proverbially aired for public consumption.

In the end we have the right to choose and having that right we get to turn the station, turn it off..or turn it on..

Because in America..we ..or you can do what ever the &^%$ you want to.

Awww...I'm listening to Red Medicine right now. :(

If someone has to be held accountable, does it have to be them? Can't we go after someone who's "post-grunge"?

Edit: I agree - the actions of Fugazi were not malicious. If they were, Ian MacKaye would personally witness the wrath of me. (I had trouble typing that with a straight face)

LOL at Prof! Can the "your mama" comments be far behind?

I doubt that this would hold any legal water. I don't see a lawyer taking this case on a contingency fee. You choose whether to turn on the radio, and to which station to tune. What specific damages can you document to the court's satisfaction?

The pressure point in this case is to exercise your choice proactively: tune away from the stations that play bad music, let them know why you're doing it, and write to their sponsors. Total the amount of the competitors' products you've bought in lieu of the sponsors' and let the sponsors know. Invite the station to inform you when they've removed the objectionable music from their airwaves.

Organize your friends, including your Internet contacts of like mind. Exchange sponsor lists among cities.

Also, keep in mind that any extra exposure you give emo is likely to increase their fame / infamy. Make sure you can muster enough opposition to make your point. If emo fans flock to the stations and sponsors you're boycotting, then you lose, big time.

Would a bad twitch -- as a result of chronic wincing from listening to this crap in public places (where I have no control of the music) also count?

If so - I'm in!
