Hi,
This is easy just go your systems tools folder and run "Disk Cleanup" which will delete all your temp files then Defrag your Hard Drive to get all your free space back again. This will help you.

How rid of it do you want to be?
Files hang around until they are removed from the Trash. Doing a Disk Cleanup is a good idea as it will get rid of all the temporary files etc.
Even after that they are still there on the disk. Just the index entry that points to the file information is gone. If you really want to get rid of it you have to overwrite the area of the disk that contains the file data with a new file.
Even after that if someone REALLY wants to get the old data of your disk there is enough of a residual effect from the old data that, using very specialized equipment, it can be seen through the new data.

I guess I don't understand what you mean by "do a scan".
Are you running a scan for Viruses¿
If you are deleting files, remember that deleteing them only removes the file name, the file is still there on your hard drive. Hidden, you can't see it, but it's still there.
Judging by the way your question is put, it sounds like you just need to empty either your "trash bin" or your "temp files", or both.
To empty temp files, just go to TOOLS at the top of your screen, click on INTERNET OPTIONS, and where it says "Temporary Internet Files" click on DELETE FILES, DELETE COOKIES, and CLEAR HISTORY.

Either empty your recycle bin, ditch the machine (backing up all of your good stuff on an external hard drive) or re-format your old one (again backing up).
