Why were Disco Girls called stellas back in the 70's?

I've never heard the term 'stellas' OR 'disco girls' used by anyone back then or since then. Except in 'Detroit Rock City'. And I'm an old dj who's dj'd a many disco rounds... ;-)

This is not common usage.

Both "guidos" and "stellas" are from the movie Detroit Rock City.
