You might want to think about a lower viscosity, most of them recommend the 5W for aluminum block engines of the synthetic.

The thicker 10/40 oil is possibly better for your car which , being 8 years old is "probably more worn in". The oil companies along with manufacturers have (arguably) created a mystique with oil and oil grades. That said, the long life service intervals afforded by modern engines would demand the best and correct grade of oil. The more humble older engines will get by on good quality lubricants with more frequent changes. The old saying about the "Cheapest mechanic being a gallon of oil" still applies !

Semi synthetic oil is a mixture of synthetic and a quality fossil fuel oil,so the oil is compatible with all oils. You can mix fossil fuel oil with synthetic oil with no effect on lubricity, however you do defeat the purpose of using synthetic oil,for it's superior lubrication qualities, and heat dissipation, but I am transgressing, yes you can mix them, sorry for the babble.

Semi-Syn is fine but check your owners manual (or engine compartment maybe) for recommended oil grade. Used to be 10-40 was what all (most) cars used but not any more.

Should be OK but should double check the manual to make sure the best oil for your car so its runs in optimum condition. According to Castrol this is the correct oil.

You might want to drop down to 5W. You should also make sure you don't void your warranty by using a synthetic. If your warranty is ok - then you will be fine.
