Hey I'm planning a trip, thinking about going to the Keys this weekend, but I'm thinking that it might be crazy with traffic and tourists since it's a holiday weekend. Anyone have any experience with this? Is it worth it to attempt it or best to go somewhere else? When would be a better time to go?

Thanks!

Go today (Thursday). If you HAVE to go Friday, go in the Morning -- the earlier the better. Come back Monday MORNING. If you travel Friday & Monday afternoons, don't say you weren't warned. Note: If US-1 is jammed, Card Sound Road will also be.

I made that mistake once about 12 years ago. Even on Monday morning, traffic was backed up northbound in Islamorada (Upper Matacumbe Key). If you stay until Tuesday, not only will the restaurants be less crowded, but the drive won't take you 8 hours.
I stayed with friends; I wouldn't recommend going all the way to the Keys without a firm hotel reservation.
