Hero (2002) with Jet Li is very "artsy" and has a scene where a caligraphy school is being attacked and they keep drawing in spite of the attack. Great movie, subtitled though.

"A Clockwork Orange" by Stanley Kubrick is an 'artsy' film about violence and uses art, in the form of classical music, to inspire violence.

300 was the most artistic, beautifully gross movie I've ever seen!
It's not an "artsy" movie, but it's "art" in the way that the violence is filmed.

Sin City and 300 - they're based off of graphic novels, so the way they film the violence in the scenes is quite fantastic.
