I, for one, am uncomfortable with this, although I have never seen a man. I have only seen women gyno's. I just feel uncomfortable putting myself in that "position" in front of a man who is not my husband. Do you?

Yea I feel the same way! I dont know its allready uncomfortable for someone else seeing you down there and having to exam your area and all that but I couldnt even imagine if a guy had to do it, I know I would be 10 X more uncomfy. For my first pregnancy visit they had to do a pap smear and my fiance was with me when I got it done and I think it would not only be weird for me but also for him if it was a guy doing it. Well I am glad I was able to find a good female OBGYN :]

i have had three different gynocologists in my life, the first was a woman the second a man and my current is a woman. it was different but i wouldn't say it was "uncomfortable". i frequently get massages because of unusual amounts of tension i hold in my back and shoulders and i have been massaged by some men (three different ones actually) and the first time i had that experience it was VERY weird and somewhat uncomfortable, since no man ever massages me ever except my husband but it got less weird the second time etc. it's a job. i guess i may be more open minded because my husband is a paramedic and has to do medical work on women often and i have heard people at various times express discomfort and weirdness at a male having to remove their clothes (like at a car wreck or something) it's a job, it's not sexual... it's a job.

I've had both and the male gyno was the best. I saw him for 10 years until I moved to a different state. I've had two females and they aren't as gentle and take the time like the male I had.

I do...but unfortunatly where i live the woman gynos are taken up and i can not get into see one unless i am pregnant....

my ob was a woman, but since having my son and moving and changing insurances its screwed that all up.....oh well...i suppose i will get over it...

I do believe its a generational thing too...the older ladies i work w/ cant believe that us younger girls would rather go to a woman than a man, but when they were my age all that practiced ob/gyn were males......

I do but I have never seen a male gyno before either.....my dr's office just got a new male gyno so when I get pregnant again I guess I will have to see him at least once....so we'll see how it goes..

My OB is an older male. I was really embarrassed at first but I got over it. He is very professional and actually more sensitive than the female doctors. He did a great job. If they make you feel uncomfortable though, I would look for a female doc.

Mine's a younger guy and I don't feel uncomfortable at all. He's really professional about everything and does the job he's supposed to do. There's always a nurse in with him when he does anything "down there" and so I don't feel threatened at all.

It's a personal choice and no one's going to make you have a male doctor if it makes you uneasy. Do what works for you.

i wouldnt necessarily want him as my gyno all the tie but i had a med student deliver my baby almost completely until there were complications and didnt care - i just wanted my baby OUT haha. there were also about 8 other resident students observing the pushing part of my labor. i never felt insecure until i had to throw up and one of them had to leave. i got embarassed because i had to throw up in front of all those people plus one of them couldnt even handle a little puke. how he was going to ever be a labor and delivery dr is beyond me

Actually .. my male doctor is way better than my female. And my husband had to problem with me seeing a male either.

When I had a woman, she was really rough and I was always in pain when I went home .. but with my male, there is rarely any pain .. I think he tries that much more to be gentle.

Plus, I can always get an appointment when I need one b/c most women feel more comfortable w/ females .. I for one, have no problem with it.

I agree I will never go to a male gyno. I know it's just their job and all, but there is no way I'd feel comfotable with it.
