I personally thought both where overrated. I saw Monroe's movies & while she was ok she wasn't anything special(just my opinion of course) & while Elvis was a good singer i don't consider him the king of Rock as he's been potrayed. This isn't a knock against them or their fans it's just my opinion.

i think it is Elvis....where would we be in the music world without him? It was Elvis that did get us on our way with the rock-n-roll era. Sure there were others up and coming but I believe without Elvis.. it just would not be the same as it is today.

I read about that Marylin Monroe's measurements was
36-24-36 by todays standards that is fat. She couldn't even get a job as a model. today they have to be 6' tall and weight 110 pounds all in the breasts. To do that it has to be an implant. It is like a long stick with two big balloons on it.
She was only 5' 4" tall. All the models then were normal women but attractive. Today these women don't even look normal. they get breast implants and have their back teeth removed to get the sucken jaw look. or protruding cheek bones. I would think that weight they would have protruding cheek bones.
Most men actually are not attracted to those women.
Anyway, that is what my husband said. He wants a regular person.
by the way the magazine article said those measurements were considered perfect in the 50's. the 70's saw twiggy who looked like a little girl and some of the remarks of that area was "she was just made for the Pedofiles of this world."
short, skinney and no breasts. A perpetual child.
Even dressed like a little girl.

I think Elvis was a bigger icon. His music took influence from other genres and made it wildly popular. His influence is still a part of music today. I'm a big fan of Marilyn Monroe, but not for her acting skill. I just think she's incredibly beautiful. I miss the days when women had T and A lol. =)

He was the first to twist and turn on stage. I remember the teenage years. Our parents would not let us see Elvis because he was considered nasty.
Ann Margret acted with him in movies she was considered the female elvis in popularity. Marylin Monroe was more in the 50's generation.
But I remember he seemed like an old man to me. Then came the Beetles from the UK and all the girls in my class was in love with Paul. They were closer to our age they were cute and funny and their movies were a lot of fun.
Elvis was only worshipped after his death until now it is almost ridiculous. He wasn't that popular then, as he is today.
He was just another singer among a lot of good singers.
One song I remember was "splish splash I was taking a bath"
Our parents almost went into shock, how could they say such a thing on a record for the young people to play and listen to.
It will cause crime and corruption among the youths of today.
Well, it was the 60's and I guess it did get pretty raunchy.
My parents if they were still alive and heard the lericks on these records would surely go into shock.
ONe record said Butt! it was baned in all the record stores in the bible belt. mid and south west.

I am biased. I am Klingon Elvis. I am Elvis' alien cousin from the year 3048. I have Klingon and Elvis DNA. My fave icon is Elvis, thank you, thank you very much. I have a Jungle Room installed aboard my Klingon Bird of Prey starship. I like fried peanut butter and banana sammiches. Overrated? Yeah, the Elvis movies were pretty annoying, but come on, don't you just want to sing....."Viva Las Vegas"?!? I understand your point. Elvis and Marily Monroe were pretty much permanent fixtures on the American pop culture landscape during their heyday simply because of the times. Anyone who was more "risque" would not have been accepted, unlike today's standards. Also, during their time, Elvis and Monroe were seen more often simply because there were only a few channels on T. V., so America steadily got their fair share of both. Their movies were pretty bland and annoying, I admit, but Monroe was the closest thing to "free sex" for men at the time, and women threw themselves at Elvis because of his sex appeal. The last 20-30 years have seen icons come and go, many overrated, but Monroe and Elvis have remained such not just because of their status when alive, but because they both died such tragic deaths prematurely. Thank you , thank you very much....

I see we have a thumbs troll who doesn't like Elvis. It's so childish that people will thumbs down simple answers. I can see if you are being extremley rude, ugly or just stupid-but just because you don't like the answer. Oh well I personally think Elvis was the bigger of the two. Marilyn was very sexy-but he made a bigger impact. If you don't like my answer-you can go to your room and cry.
