It's sooo refreshing to hear someone say that. I'm a recovering alcoholic and I couldn't agree MORE with you. I like how the other person referred her garden as a "church". My garden sits on a plot of land directly behind my barn style garage. Attached to the garage is an old chimney that sits only about 6 feet tall now. On top of the chimney I placed a statue of the Buddha, where he overlooks the garden to the west. Sunsets are spectacular and at night we light a candle in front of it. It's incredibly spiritual.
This is only my second year having a garden, but I truly love it. While I still stuggle with drinking . . . the garden has been my higher power. Keep up the good work . . . and enjoy a lifetime in your garden !!!

I'm not into drugs, but my garden is definitely therapy for depression. When I work in my garden, hearing the birds sing, I have a fountain running, and the wind whipping through the palms and grapefruit tree, I feel the very presence of God with me. What Peace I feel.

Of a sort. My garden is actually my church. I'm not a religious person, but I am spiritual and I actually feel closest to God when I harvest my garden. I've been gardening for years and yet it still amazes me. I tell people if they want to see a miracle then watch a seed grow into food.

I've never thought of my yard/greenhouse as an escape from drugs. But I work in it many hours a day. Keeps me focused in on life and not the fast lane. I like to watch the plants grow and see my personal achievement. I guess you might say this is my drug of choice. And it doesn't harm anyone!

You betcha, 5yrs. clean and sober and without AA. Just my gardens and a visit with my "mental hygienist" once a week. It's kind of a shame too, I used to grow excellent dope, but I guess that's what gave me some of my legal gardening skills. RScott

Acually, my garden is kind of like my therapy. Ever since my uncle passed away, working outside makes me feel better about it. It's like I'm giving myself to nature or something.
