I would say both men and women tennis are at the same level of interest and excitement. The resurgence of womens tennis from the Billy Jean King/Navratalova days is back thanks to the Williams Sisters, Sharapova, Henin and the competitive rivilaries that have formed over the few years.
The latest upstarts like Viadisova, Peer, Mirza, Chadtsedake, (excuse the spelling), Donald Young, Isner and the Serbs (something ending in an -itch) are doing a fantastic job chasing the champions.

Among the men - Rafael Nadal. When I first heard his name I fell in love with it :-).It sounds like the name of an angel or an exotic latino lover ;-)
You're right about Anna Smashnova - sound pretty cool for a tennis player's name.It may sound like a klishe but I do like Maria Sharapova's name.I like the name Maria a lot,as well as her nickname-MASHA.Another beautiful WTA name is Sanya Mirza.
