this check was made out to me I have not cashed the date on the check is 09/28/06 do I have to get another check issue

The checked should be good as long as the issuer has not cancelled the check or stopped payment on it. Try cashing it. If no funds were available, then ask for another one.

As a general rule, most banks won't cash a check that is dated longer than 6 months. However, if they are able to make contact with the person who wrote the check, they may be willing to make an exception. Your best bet is to take the check to the bank it's drawn from and have them cash it. Honestly, most tellers won't catch it. If you're really worried, you could contact the person that wrote you the check and let them know that you're going to cash it.

Lisa - is it a personal check or a business check. Most business checks will have something on them, "valid for 90 (or 120) days.
If you want you money, it is probably best to contact the person who issued the check and let them know you intend to cash it so it doesn't bounce.

I would call whoever you got that check from and ask them that question. But it sounds like you should get that check reissued.
