Let's face it. It doesn't make sense to vote for a party that discrimnates against you based upon your sexual orientation.

Remember that Republicans don't have any "values". They have only convictions. The word "values" imply something noble and moral. Republicans are not moral and not noble in any way.

The first thing you should do is talk to former Log Cabin Republicans. Ask them why they joined in the first place and what made them finally leave the party. I think it is somewhat hypocritical to be a Republican if you are gay but I have been told its usually older people who want to hold on to their money now that they are older. They had their fun when they were young and now are serious about life and refuse to support the government's social programs because it means less money for them. But hey they seem to have no problem giving up their money for an unnecessary war so go figure.

OK, I am a gay Republican. And although I disagree with most Republicans on the gay issues, I do agree with them on tax, security, and military issues. For me, the thing I do is look at the individual I'm voting for, and not the party they are affiliated with. 9 out of 10 times I will vote Republican, but occasionally I don't.

To be true to yourself, you need to take a look at where each candidate stands on each issue of concern for you and choose the one that agrees with you on the issues important to you, or at least agrees with you on the most issues.

The tough part about this is that we have to decide for ourselves how we feel on each issue. If the only issue you are concerned with is gay rights, then thats what you need to look at. Hopefully though, each of us has other things that we are also concerned with. Don't know about you, but being gay is only one part of the person that I am.

It also doesn't make sense to me to vote for a candidate based on only one, single issue.

Now, in reality, NONE of the candidates, in either party, really excite me right now as presidential material. Years ago, George C. Wallace said it right when he said, if you compare demos and repubs..... ".... there ain't a nickel's worth of difference between the two." Basically, I have about decided that the truth just isn't in any of them.

Most important for us all, is that we go vote for SOMEBODY, anybody, just go vote.

Log Cabin Gays seem to have that market.

I usually think of it like when you saw Jessy Helms on TV. He ALWAYS has a young woman, often Asian and a young (white or black) male behind him. Why? What could they possibly have gained from being with him?

It's a strange grouping. I have friends who are Gay Republicans. It's not a topic we discuss, all strong feelings, no resolution.

There is an organization called Log Cabin Republicans. They are pro-gay.

Since it is a key belief of republican values that being gay is a choice, and you share that belief, simply stop choosing to be gay and start choosing to be straight. Problem solved.

Support the Libertarian Party. Their basically a bunch of economical conservatives that are much more pro-equal rights. Look 'em up and see if it fits your views.

Look at all the candidates and find the one who most closely mirrors for values, vote for that one. If it is not a republican, send a letter to the candidate you WOULD have voted for, were it not for discrimination against gays, telling him/her that you would have voted for him/her if he/she did not discriminate against gays.
