I worked as chambermaid/receptionist at a no-tell motel.
I had horrible hours, late at night then back in the morning, the bosses dad ran a massage parlour and the bosses friends were ummm creepy. Cleaning rooms is very hard work and there were "things" and "smells" that I don't even want to describe now. I was chewed out once by the bosses girlfriend because I'd neglected to remove a "hair"(from you know where) in a tub. I had to stay alone in the office at night with little more protection than a glass door between me and the freaky deaks. I was never so relieved to get laid off.

Waitress/short order cook/cashier/clean up at a greasy spoon/gas bar restaurant.

I was 14, on alone after 2 nights training. There was mold on the stock in the basement and a mouse ran through the butter on the chopping block.

I was making a whopping $2/hr, which was 1.75 below minimum wage, but I was underage, so they said I shouldn't earn as much. Didn't stop them from working me alone on the Saturday and Sunday 4-2am shift.

That job sucked in ways you couldn't imagine.

But, on the up side, I did learn how to turn out breakfast for four in 15 minutes. I'm talking eggs, sausage, toast, fresh fruit and coffee. That's paid off immeasurably on school mornings when we've all overslept.

"Multi-tasking" might have been coined recently, but I mastered it in 1974.

Working at my local pub as a waitress - they payed me £3.15 an hour made you work ridiculously long shifts without breaks or food, one day I worked from 5:30pm til 2:30 am without a break; another day I worked from 8am til 3:30pm when there was a christening party, a huge group of harley's bikers who meet up there every first sunday of the month, a big family dinner plus all the usual customers. I managed to fall over, black out a couple of times from exhaustion (it was a very hot day and i was running around non stop carrying burning hot plates) at one point i smashed a glass and got yelled at by one of the bikers to 'Watch the tires!'. The guy from the christening party gave me and the other woman who was helping out a £20 tip which I saw none of as they put all the tips in a jar and only share them out to the people who do the last shifts (til 2/3 in the morning.) I think that was the day I quit!

I worked in a maternity shop when I was first married. It was unpleasant of several counts....

Because I was in the shop, rumors started that I was pregnant when I got married.

The manager was very high strung.

Pregnant women are moody!

I only worked there less than a year, and was glad to find a better job so I could move on.

Chamber maid in a hotel. Cleaning toilets, sinks, baths and showers which had stray hairs in them, Yuck! I have a 'thing' about stray hairs (whatever kind!) in bathrooms they make me gag. I swear the hairs used to taunt me - "look at me little monkey, I'm a stray hair from someone else's body, look at me, look at meeeee"
The worst bit was - I was once stripping the bedsheets from a bed, to put fresh, clean ones on, and there was a condom amongst the sheets. Bleurghhh, sends shivers down my spine, still!

Hadn't seen the answer above me before submitting, sorry!

when I just got out of college, I got a job working at a medical supply company, with no insurance sh*t hours and a psycho boss. I ended up walking out on my lunch hour back in 2001 and have been at my current job ever since.

Nursing home was the worst, and the best.

Worst because of what I had to clean. Best because I love the elderly!!!

Being my brother's slave for a day.
Tip: don't put those kinds of stakes up in a bet with a ten year old.
You don't want to know the things he made me do. I get goosebumps thinking about it...
