The Hindu Shastras speak of 64 births of a soul. It starts from the lowest of the being any in the final stage the soul is born as a human.
In any case, how does that bother us? We have a life and we must bother as to how best we can live it without hurting others and yet enjoying life. Even if i told you you have 5 more births in your last birth you were a king.. How does that change your present situation?
I do believe in life after death theory, but i believe in one more thing.... living your life now .... coz it does not matter what you were or what you will be in your next birth if any!!!

One in the physical realm.

No proof of others, at least in this physical realm.

We want to believe in other lives, our ancestors did. Organized religion effectively put a stop to that "nonsense".

So did science.

From what I can gauge from postings in here, many accounts are anecdotal and testimonials.

This will also explain why do you believe in life after death. Personal experience.

Sometimes, in a world where not everything can be explained in black and white,-- that is good enough.

What do you mean by life? Has a star got a life? Has the universe got a life?

If you mean a physical, thinking entity, then it is quite possible that atoms from your body will end up in another creature.

The atoms which make up planets are built in stars. Therefore, we are made of star-dust (a bit whimsical, but true). Our bodies are built by taking in atoms from the environment. Once this body dies, the atoms are freed and move on to make something else.

In this way, we are all capable of "creating" another being somewhere else, given the enormous amount of time in the universe.

However, if you mean the soul, then no one can answer - except God, I suppose.

I don't know , but I do know mine started roughly 2500 years back or so , for instance , I can swear that the Egyptian Sphinx was made with the head of a lion and later re cut to what is now the head of a Pharaoh ... later on in a different life .... now I have built six violins and never took lessons ???...
And paint in the realism stile in oil and also never took lessons ( and I a' m talking of serious good paintings , museum quality ) but have no drive to do them as carer . So life after death is just reincarnation and continue learning ..

i believe their are countless lives but i don't think their is a soul that goes from one life to another but a continuation of the possibilities we have formed in this life such as kamma move on to where the possibilities will ripen although i know i could be wrong but i'm yet to hear a version of what comes after that is more satisfactory.

Know or don't know. If you don't know, just leave it there until you do know. Believing is for fools.

The mechanism of beingness itself (and therewith how many "lives" there are or aren't) does not seem to be known to humans, but it IS quite knowable. It is not hidden or obscure in any way. The reason you do not know it (the very nature of beingness itself) is precisely that you DO go around believing things, instead of astutely and diligently investigating them.

There are many theories on this subject.
However, I do believe that we are reborn back into the earth plane for soul progression. Each time we come back, it's to excel for soul progression reasons. After we have mastered the earth plane, we move on to higher worlds.

i believe in past lives and life after death, i always have but i watched a programe on ITV once about a lad who went looking for his parents or something that he had in a past life, and that just blew me away.

I believe in re-incarnation, so I believe that there are an infinite number of lives that we lead. I remember all of my past lives. You just need to relax in the right way and search your mind...
