I don't want to speak for all libeals,
but heres a few reasons,
# 1 - its an illegal thing to solicit sex in a bathroom, why would a liberal want to defend an illegal thing,
# 2 - If he is gay or bisexual, I think liberals would defend his right to do that, if he choose to leave his wife and lead that lifestyle,
# 3 - I think the fact that he's one of yours, a republican and a conservative, maybe you guys should clean up your own mess,
and
# 4 - since this guy apparently has for his entire career attacked the gays, I don't think liberals really want to come to his defense
I dunno,
my view is, hes from Idaho, let Idaho republicans who voted for him defend their vote,

Aren't conservatives tickled pink to have liberals' tolerance to throw up to them when one of their many hypocritical repressed molesters gets caught?
I am a liberal who does not let gays or neocons or anyone else tell me for whom to vote, much less who I ought to hate. If this guy broke the law (by soliciting sex in a public restroom), I say throw the book at him same as you would any other criminal.

You're absolutely correct. This liberal believes that the man has every right to be gay, and how he chooses to exercise that right is between him and his wife, and between him and his partner(s). I even support his right to enter a marriage-type contract with another man should he and his wife divorce or should he become a widower, even if he cannot bring himself to support that right for others.
That being said, he does NOT have the right to start playing footsies with me while I am trying to take a dump and read a little Tom Clancy.
The funniest thing to me about all of this is that for the first time ever, a US senator has felt compelled to describe his excretory stance to the media. I wasn't trying to pick him up, I'm not gay. Everybody knows I vote against anything gay, like my constituents want me to. I just happen to have a "wide stance" when I poop.
Is that so wrong?

Whether he is gay or not is of no importance. I would support a gay politician if he had the same views as me (Craig doesn't) However, he has voted organists rights for years. He is denying he is gay and that is up to him although he has been accused before. As this being a mess for the reps. or Bush I agree this is his mess to clean up. I don't care one way or the other his sexual preference but his views on everything else, environment, foreign policy, education, really bother me!

The lame arguments I have seen from some conservatives has finally convinced me they really don't have both oars in the water. You nailed it with this one. It's like they're sticking fingers in both of their ears and just singing "La la la la la" so they don't have to face reality. As though liberals should defend a guy who tried to add discrimination against gays to the Constitution while he was on the down low in bathrooms when the itch grabbed him. He should just have "hypocrite" tattooed on his forehead and be done with it.

Senator Larry Craig is a Republican, he is a hypocrite who publicly criticizes homosexuality but privately engages in it.
Why would the Democrats defend him?
He is the poster child for Republican hypocrisy.

It's a bizarre situation. I feel for his wife. I think the senator speaking out like he has is a mistake. It doesn't make me think he's less guilty anyway. I can see where there might be an error but it's a big might be. He certainly sounds gay if a person can sound gay. Of course there is nothing wrong with that but it is really unfair to his wife. No one is perfect, republican or democrat. All of us have skeletons in our closets. I think too many Republicans are hypocrites or just blind.

As far as I am concerned he can stay married, as long as his wife wants him. Obviously its his personal sense of guilt that led him to be so anti gay in his public life. Idahoans seem to have reelected him all these years even though he was busy lying to himself as much as others. If he was good and effective for the state, then maybe they should show some good sense and let him workout his personal demons himself, but not in public toilets.
But he can lose the violently anti-gay attitude, its OK, we all know now.

I think it is Craig's job to defend his position. I feel kind of sorry for him, though. Of course, I do not personally know the man.

They are just being rhetorical but it is funny to watch the hatred of the left at work.
Craig should take a walk and that is something most republicans agree on

Well, since all he did was "apparently" use the "universal symbol" for asking for sex in a mens room, how is that solicitation?
So you think its only ok to defend gays if they choose men over women, what about bi sexual, transexuals, transvestities, they are really confused.
Who cares what his political stance is, if he is gay you should support his rights
And well, for your #4, thats just typical.
