The thing to know when going through with the procedure (external version) is that it is not guaranteed to work and can still result in your having a c-section. I have had c-sections with both of my children (my first's cord was around his neck) and am planning on another with this baby. Honestly, i had a very easy recovery with my first one but the subsequent ones take a little while longer to heal. having never had a vaginal birth i can't tell you the difference between the two but i can tell you that many hospitals are no longer allowing vbacs for insurance reasons. so you really have to think of the future costs as well.
You are NOT in the hospital for a week after a c-section.. i was out on the 3rd day with my first and stayed 1 additional day with my second.

Both my children were born via c-section; the first being and emergency and the second being planned. If you are planning on having a planned c-section due to your baby being breech, it is much safer than the doctors trying to manually move the baby head down.
When teh doctors try yo manually move your baby head down, they will give you medicines to relax and make your uterus pain free. Because of this, the mother can have a hard time feeling whats going on, especially if your uterus tears. There is an increased chance of yiour water breaking, labor starting, and the placenta pulling away from the uterus. Hemorraging has also been caused by this. Some woman have had their doctors try and manually move the baby, and they baby has gotten stuff sidewyas, which lead to a c-section anywyas. There has also been reports of the baby getting hurt during the process. Trying to manually move the baby causes much stress on both the baby and mother.
If you plan to have a c-section, please read up on it a bit. It looks easy, and it is, but its very painful afterwards. You will be in the hospital for aobut 1 week if you have a c-section.
Good luck! And if oy uever have any more questions, feel free to ask!

what are the risks of having an external version? Is this procedure really more risky than a c section? I doubt it. C-section is MAJOR surgery. I would think long and hard about it. I personally, would go for the external version. But if you want a c-section, no one can talk you out of it!

My aunt had the external version and said it was very painful. My sister had a c-section for a breech baby and said it wasn't too bad, but it wasn't as easy as her other two that were natural. It is your decision to make, but if the drugs are the only reason you don't want the external version, remember they will give you drugs when they do the c-section.

My oldest was breech at 37 weeks and she turned on her own. I think that if you do not want to do the procedure, then don't. It could be 4 more weeks before you go into labor and the baby may turn by then.

if you don't mind having the c-section then go for it, since you don't want that medication in your body. But most women will tell you that the recovery time of a vaginal birth, compared to the section is a lot shorter. And there are complications to c-sections that you should consider, and you have to think about future pregnancies (if you will have another c or try for a vbac ...vaginal birth after cesarian). so many things to consider....but they can turn the baby for you (i think the success rate of them doing it is 80%, and you can have a natural vaginal birth). but either way, you will have to decide what is right for you! good luck!
and i agree with the other answer that babies do end up turning on thier own closer to labor! so you might not even have anything to worry about!

a c-section is not necessarily the safest way to have a baby! There are a lot of risks involved. Do some research on both... then make a decision.http://www.drspock.com/article/0,1510,5284,00.html

I think it is your choice completely. However, I think it is odd that you are considering not having this procedure due to drugs when they pump you full of them before , during, and after a c-section. I think that is sort of odd. You should just talk to your doctor and make the decision that is best for you.
Good Luck!!!

My mom had my last brother 10yrs ago. I can tell you what she opted for. She waited until the day she went in to labor for my brother to turn on his own. Her water broke, she went to the hospital and found out he was still breach and they sent her in for a c-section. No big deal, he was safe and healthy(also over 9lbs, she might not have been able to deliver him anyway).
Your body, your pregnancy, your choice.

I think it's a personal decision, and you and your doctor should discuss your options keeping in mind what is best for you and your baby. Good luck and Congrats!
