Ashre you should stick your nose in a history book and look how society was organized. Almost every society was a CLASS society, with men and women beeing members of every class.
Women opressed men is an ingorant statement. But you Americans dont have exactly the reputation of beeing the brightest bulp in the pack.

YES I DO HONESTLY BELIEVE THAT. Open an history book fer crying out loud. Did men rule over women farmers ? No the nobles ruled over the farmers. Did men force women to built the pyramids ? No it was the ruling class rallied around the pharao that did that. (and there just happend to be a female pharao).
SOooo women were opressed by men is an extremly ingorant thing to say.

superruper universal suffrage for men and women was maybe a couple of minutes apart.
Of course Iam correct, thats because I use my HEAD to thing and not that replacement for religion called feminism.

Also I find it funny how of a sudden that I ruled the past out, it has no bearing anymore.

In my opinion, many use this as a justification to discriminate against men as a group.
It is more like, "well, my great grandmother was mistreated, therefore I mistreat the progeny of those who mistreated her".

Despite all the hyperbole and innuendo being bandied about by so many here, women were not all that oppressed, certainly not on the scale of blacks in America.

There were things they were not allowed to do, such as enter a bar without a male escort but that was for their own protection and the protection of their reputation, not to harass or oppress.

Much of the teachings of feminism is just a few ounces short of the whole pound, meaning that they will take part of a story and eliminate the other side of the tale.

You are correct...certain classes of people - both men and women - were oppressed throughout history. But I'm sure that your stroll through history will also demonstrate that women lacked the same rights as men and only climbed out of that oppression in the last century.

Discussion of historical oppression has absolutely no bearing on the battle of the sexes today, however, and anyone who uses it is not living in the present. We can all blame our parents for a lacking childhood if we wish, but it is up to us to take control of our lives and rise above our pasts. Strong and self respecting women have done just that, and fight whatever battles they encounter in their present lives, without having to refer back to the 'way it used to be'...

Oh, come on now, Cassius, you don't honestly believe that, do you? It is true that both men and women have faced their share of persecution over the years, for reasons of ethnicity, color, or religion, but you can't chalk up the centuries of oppression women endured at the hands of men as just "five minutes" of inconvenience. For over a millennium, women were thought of as little more than necessary tools of procreation. They were the baby-making machines and men were the masters of the universe. Women were routinely beaten by their husbands and fathers (and still are in some parts of the world) for small offenses like burning a meal or going somewhere without permission, and it was accepted-no, expected-by the lawmakers. They were not granted the right to vote in this country until 1920, and in many countries, they are still denied the right to vote. Furthermore, even though we now have so-called "equal rights," women are still only making 70 cents for every dollar men in the same professions earn. Believe me, women were most definitely oppressed, but you are right in implying that non-white or non-Christian men have been just as persecuted in history.

right, cry me a river when you are expected to come home and get supper ready, set the table and then clean it all up while the rest of the family walks away and does their thing.

then there is the laundry, picking up after everyone else, walking, feeding, and taking the pets to the vet.

making sure everyone has the money for school, clothing is in tact, shoes are in good shape, kids get to pratice and the like.

answer me this, how many times has your mom, daughter, wife, girlfriend (I am assuming you're a man) has asked you to do something, fix the car, paint the room, reinforce the banister, teach nemo how to ride his bike, etc. after a hard day at work and you are tired. Do you not tell her to get on her broom and leave you alone?

well, that's pretty much what we want to say, but then who would do the cooking and the cleaning and so on.

women had no legal rights. they were not considered human. many were not oppressed, but they could have been. they were at the mercy of the men in their lives, so what if they had bad men in their lives or no men at all? they could be beaten & raped and the law did not protect them. whenever a woman was raped, it was not a crime against her (she could not press charges) but a crime against her "owner"--ie, husband or father, only HE could press charges for "damage to his property".
also, if her husband died she did not inherit anything unless he was kind enough to give her something (which could only be a small portion). she did not even have rights to her home. she could not own property. and she could not have custody of the children.
here's a summary.

is this a serious question?? who oppressed the men?? white people (historically men) have been oppressing people for I dont know how long. white women definitely have it better as far as oppression goes; however, women still dont get paid equal wages for the same job as men.

edit: generally, it is the rich oppressing the poor inorder to keep themselves as the rich. hence why i noted that white people have been oppressing people for however many years. it seems as though you didnt actually read mine but assumed becasue i was a female i would be taking the defensive. women in recent history have generally been thought of as less intelligent and only capable of running a household (which is actually a lot of work).
yes i am american, i don't know if you want me to apologize for my great grandparents moving to this country because they thought america would create more for them. perhaps in your country women are equal to men. i don't know. in some cultures women are given more respect than man. perhaps you come from one such culture.

I saw Iron Jawed Angels, and now I no longer feel bad for any of them. I hate them. Distracting the public during war time with "important issues". And they couldnt even multitask and cook dinner for their providers. Sheesh. and women are supposed to be good at that!
