Of course. There are different kinds of shy (or whatever behavioural challenge). There is the kind where it is true but it is somewhat overcome professionally when it needs to be just like at work or other social situations. The other kind would be when it gets the better of you and you cannot function properly to your potential. Mostly, people are the first type in when they are, but they can work around it and see it as a positive thing to help. Sometimes if it's the second kind, when shyness or the condition controls a person's life, then that is when counselling is a solution to seek help.

Shy people can be receptionists. It actually will help them to come out of their shell so to speak.
I work in a very busy office. There were 2 of us in the front at first. Knowing my co-worker was there helped, then she quit and I was on my own.
When people walk into your office take a deep breath, relax, and do your best.
As the days go by, you will be come more and more comfortable.

Yes. I was shy and I was a successful receptionist. I had to learn to modulate my voice to be distinct and to be professional even in the face of rudeness.
For me, I was shy in a social setting, but far more brave when it came to being informative and in the position to help someone. Believe me, after a couple of weeks, you'll find yourself saying the same things over and over and lose the phone shyness (at work anyway).

I don't see why not. You have a script to say when answering the phones- or greeting customers. If anything a receptionist job mght help you be less shy.

Yes, I was very shy, and this really helped me come out of my shell. Just know your job well, and don't get offended easily or take it personal when customers or co-workers are rude. It had nothing to do with you half of the time, and some people are just having a bad day. Be confident, know your stuff, and you'll do fine.

of course. But you may want to try this little trick. Get a make over, mature business look for the job. Overdress a little. It's a great way to boost your confidence and inspire respect from the people you are 'receiving'.
