It is difficult to destroy an illusion.
Instead, one is forced to face reality.
The American Dream should more rightly be called "The American Illusion".
We are still very young as far as socio-political experiments go. Certainly the Greeks, Romans, Persians and the Ottoman Empire dwarf us in their longevity.
Yet all human attempts to establish a stable and controlled culture are doomed to fail.
The only constant is change. Because of that, all governments and cultures are always in flux.
Further, economic success is based on two people agreeing that something is worth something else.
In the case of currency, The US Dollar is quickly dropping from its position as the petro-currency of the world.
As the Dollar declines, the Euro rises out of the ashes of World War II like the fabled Phoenix.
As confidence in our currency diminishes, our culture faces the end of a long run of prosperity.
Even Real Estate--long thought to be the only "sure thing" as an investment--is taking a huge beating right now as we face the result of "overconfidence" in consumer credit.
The best chance for some form of the American Dream to survive will be for The United States to form a major alliance, likely with China, which will shore up our global financial position.
Finally, besides the effects of the free marketplace, we face the serious problem of counterfeiting our currency.
That has always been a problem, but the motive has always been one of profit.
Now we face forces who hate us enough that they will invest in huge counterfeiting schemes, simply to advance the collapse of our Government.
Yes, the illusion of the American Dream is long overdue for a rude awakening.

No, not in my opinion. I just think that over the last 60 years it has changed to Greed. Pure and simple everyone has become too greedy. All you ever hear anymore is I want, I want, I want. Mostly from young people, but adults are there more and more. But, then again this is just my opinion.

I would say "Slowly but surely" but it's happening at such a fast pace that i don't know what we can do about it. It's a dirty , rotten shame. Where are all the "patriots?"
