But why do you think it's subversive? It basically says that there are certain rights we have simply because we're humans, and that government's job SHOULD BE nothing more than to enable its people to enjoy life, liberty, and the pursuit of happiness. And that whenever government oversteps these bounds, the people can and should do something about it.
But in reality, that ideal didn't last long. Even as early as Abraham Lincoln's presidency (and probably earlier but I'm not a history buff), the government was exercising unconstitutional actions, which has continued today right on up through Clinton and Bush, to where we now have this monster over us that definitely needs reform. Neither party has proven innocent in keeping the government within its proper boundaries. We need a president who believes the Constitution is the highest authority in our land, even higher than the president himself, any U.N. treaties, etc.
(And yes, I'm aware the quote above is the Declaration of Independence, not the Constitution. But the ideals of both documents were the same.)
(And I personally would NOT prefer Hitler to the Founding Fathers. I'd prefer a president and Congress who seriously believed in limited government, not a government that doled out welfare, violated its own Constitution by quietly and slowly restricting speech, religion, and guns, and has otherwise spent the past 200 years distorting and then subverting the Constitution. The problem is not the Constitution; the problem is the liberal idea that it is a "living document".)

Thomas Jefferson, 3rd President of the United States (at the time, this was understood as fact by everybody and it was actually based heavily upon the works of John Locke)
Things are so bad these days that most Americans would prefer Hitler to the Founding Fathers (provided that you poll them anonymously with descriptions of both). Most everything Hitler believed in has become the core of the modern Democratic and Republican Parties (Welfare, Gun Control, Warmongering, Occupational Safety Standards, "promoting Public Health," etc.).
