I'm afraid so. I came from private schools, and I think our public edu system stinks!! The mere fact that many ppl on this site alone do not know how to properly construct an understandable sentence should be clue enough.
I'm talking adults, and not just the crazy abbreviations - simple past, present, future tense appears to be comepletely foreign to some!

Apparently the No Child Left Behind Act failed miserably in South Carolina. It's not her fault she's too stupid to realize that the question wanted to know why Americans couldn't find the U.S. on a map.

She represents it better than most.
She's actually much smarter than that clip would have you believe. After that one mistake, so many are so quick to write her off as an air-head. She later went on talk shows to (successfully) defend her ability to think and formulate sentences. Too late, the media and public have already formed their opinions... like our education system, she has been unfairly judged.

She is smarter than her answer would suggest. Most blond women are much more intelligent than virtually any other race or ethnicity females. It's just that blonds have not fallen into the "politically correct" con game. Try to imagine Jay Leno making fun of an African female if a dumb answer like that came from her lips. It would never happen.
The girls are so coached to not say the wrong thing that their nervousness gets the best of them when they are asked without warning to stand and deliver. That's what happened to the young woman who has been mocked so cruelly in the past few days.
Give her a break. As she gets older, she will reveal more wisdom than Jay Leno ever had in his life. I have known many "dumb" blonds who made absolutely correct choices in their lives. She will too. For now, she should laugh along with her mockers. It's the best thing to do at the moment.

I really hope not! If so, we are all in extreme danger in the future! P.S. - She does NOT represent the common southerner! Have you noticed that the majority of U.S. presidents are from the south? Both Democrat and Republican.

She's a good representative of the south, if nothing else.

Gee....cut the girl some slack...she was on television, flustered and blonde...
I am certain that she is suffering with every comment made by a late-night television host. Time to give her a break and let her get back to her education.

The sad reality is that she is probably smarter than average.
At least she knows that some people have no maps.

Don't blame the schools for her, if there is something I want to know (or don't know) I look it up myself. After all, she's grown know and anything she doesn't know it is her fault not the schools.

I'd like for you to answer that question she was asked. Most people can talk about how her response was stupid, but I have yet to hear them answer the question themselves.
