Most KISSfans don't like his solo album or some the songs he sings on the KISS albums. I've even known some KISS fans who prefer Eric Carr over him. Eventhough they do like Beth.
Peter sings Beth & Black Diamond. But people say he is their 4th favorite KISS member.
Peter Griffin even said so in the KISS stock episode when Lois dressed up as the Catman.

I love his makeup design and his singing voice. Peter is a talented drummer and has influenced many others including Vinnie Paul & Tommy Lee.

Criss is NOT underrated. He was an average drummer at best during the glory days of Kiss, and on the recent reunion run, the band had to resort to using drum triggers because he simply no longer has the power to create the heavy drum sound that is needed for their performance. I did enjoy his solo album, but I am also a fan of 50s and early 60s rock. I can see why most Kiss fans would dislike it. His best songs by far in the Kiss catalog were written by other members of the band (Black Diamond was a Stanly composition, Strange Ways was written by Ace, Hard Luck Woman was written by Stanley, Baby Driver... that's the only good one he wrote in my opinion).

As a drummer, Eric Carr and Eric Singer both are definitely superior to Peter Criss.

I am a lifelong KISS fan, and I love Peter and always will because he was part of the original lineup -- and in turn, the successful chemistry -- that was KISS.

That said, he was by far the least talented of four already average players. I've often wondered if the poor sales of his 1978 solo album contributed to his substance abuse problems later on.

Peter is a very good jazz drummer. He's an average rock drummer.

I started playing drums because of him. I didn't like Beth, but I'm a rocker and don't care for ballads. I love his voice, I think he has a great rock and roll voice, right up there with Paul Stanley and Robert Plant! Nobody can scream like him. I didn't care for Eric Carr, but I did like Eric Singer. It's all a style thing, I guess. Ace and Peter were and will always be my favorite band members of Kiss.

I agree with the underrated statement...the solos on ''Alive'' and ''Alive II'' were alot better than average. I think that by leaving the band a couple of times , Simmons and Stanley have made some negative comments about his playing ability. He may not be a Stewart Copeland,Neil Peart,or Carmine Appice but, his playing style fit in with Kiss' style of music.

Studio guys did a lot of the drumming on the Kiss albums, so how do you know he's underrated?

He said his worst rock'n'roll injury was when someone hit him in the face with a piss soaked roll of toilet paper whil he was singing "Beth" in a Blender interview I read.

Pete's got a style all his own.........

Obviously, there are much better drummers out there (Neil Peart to name one).......but Peter Criss is unique.

He's more of a "big band" type of guy if you know what I mean......or jazzy like Deke mentioned

I don't agree with the premise of your question. He was in integral part of the classic line-up - any fan knows that.
