I would have to say it depends on what films you are watching! I think as a whole, we are nice, compassionate people. But like anywhere else, there are people who are jerks. I've only ever been to Mexico, so I can't say anything in comparison for the places here in America, but I've lived all over the country and I think it's beautiful.

Hope you're able to make it over here sometime!

Is England like you see it in films? America of course is like the films in that they are filmed here. By in large the people are friendly. But as you travel through the country, you will find different accents, cultures and attitudes. If you go to a large state like Texas or California you will find people are different in the different major cities. In Texas you have Houston which is quite industrial in parts, San Antonio which has a strong Hispanic heritage and also a strong German heritage and is probably the most diverse city in the state, Austin which is artsy with a big music presence, Dallas, which is very upscale and trendy and Fort Worth which has the feel of a laid back cowboy town but has the best cultural opportunities in the state, In California, San Diego is completely different from LA which is totally different from San Francisco etc...

If you get the picture, everywhere you go is different and there is a lot of the country to see.

Twinkle toes and Mike G are right- it has it's good and bad. When you said everyone seems nice, some people are and some people aren't just like any other place. Although, depending on what part of the country you go to people have different attitudes. I used to live in NY city and there you dont smile at people on the street, you just go on your way. But I live in Florida now and southern people are a little more friendly.

But wherever you go, you will meet nice people, but you also need to be careful. Someone who seems nice might not be. Not trying to scare you, just a caution. But there are alot of great things in America. There are alot of different climates, sceneries and cultures. I'm sure you'll have a good time if you come.

Not always. Not evryone ride a Ford Mustang, a Chevy Corvette or a four wheels drive; and you'll be surprised to find instead a lot of Toyota you never see in American movies.

You'll be innescapably arrested and prosecuted if you punch someone in the face.

Parents are not always that nice, careful and well educated.

Houses are not always that nice.

There are countless alternatives to desert-like places, places filled with sky-scrappers, and beaches; such as English-like countryside, for example.

You'll not be allowed to carry a gun anywhere.

But, overall, it's still the best place in the world to live in.

I'm French and I lived in Masschusetts during 4 years and I have never been confronted with this violence many people make allusion to. In France, in revenge, yes. Perhaps have I been lucky.

I miss it awfully anyways.

It would depend upon the film. The U.S. is a very big place with a very, very diverse population. We have crowded cities, small towns, a thousand miles of flat plains and some of the highest mountains in the world. There is a huge difference between the cities in the Northeast (New York, Washington, Boston, Philly, etc) and the cities in California (San Francisco, Los Angeles, San Diego, etc.).

Also differences between folks living in major metropolitan areas and those living on the plains in our farm and open lands.

It is a cool place and worth visiting.

No. Its worse. America has a high crime rate and you could get killed or robbed or raped if you innocently go to the wrong part of town; or are on an empty train station at night; or take the wrong cab driver.

If you do visit the States, just be very careful! Don't 'flash your cash'; don't carry your camera in full view; don't carry your money or I.D. in your purse but in your pocket; be careful of who you ask directions; and don't accept a ride from strangers. Don't become a VICTIM.

America can be very beautiful and for the most part we are pretty friendly especially to our British Friends. America is a very large country for one in fact it is bigger than all of Europe combined excluding Russia. And like Europe different regions of the U.S have different cultures. The south or southern U.S. i.e Texas, Tennesse, Kentucky, Georgia, the Carolinas, Alabama etc people tend to be very nice and very hospitible. If you are going to go to this part of the US. I recommend checking out cities like Nashville especially if you love music. New Orleans if you like music and good cajun food. Dallas if you want a southern city with lots of fine arts and culture. If you are going to visit the east coast people tend to be living a faster pace of life they are not known to be friendly especially in New York City but, for the most part New Yorkers are good people. There is plenty to do in New York. It is the hub of culture(Broadway, Metropolitan Musuem of Art, Radio City Music Hall etc. etc.) and food for America but, it is overwhelming, and very crowded, and kind of dirty. But, it is New York and there in no other place like it on Earth. Plus if you like to shop it is the best place in the world. If you are going to the west you must see a few places, First the Grand Canyon. This is unbelievable and a must see. Spend some time in Las Vegas.. Check out LA and the film scene and San Diego is a must for its beautiful scenary and perfect weather. If you are going to the Midwest a must stop place is Chicago. This is another hub of culture and food in the U.S. It is a large city but, is very user friendly and not overwhelming like New York. The city is very clean and people are very friendly. It has an excellent theater scene especially comedy i.e Second City. It has an excellent food scene. And its lake front is simply just gorgeous. It has excellent culture i.e Art Institute of Chicago, excellent Museums, excellent architecture especially if you like tall buildings and excellent symphony and opera companies and execellent shopping. Washington D.C. is another great place to see especially for its monuments and musuems. Miami is also good if you like the nightlife and the beaches. There are just so many places to see. You couldn't see it all in a life time. But, if I had to chose a few places I would recommend Miami, Chicago, and New Orleans and Las Vegas. I hope this helps and take care.

I traveled to the U.K and liked it alot but its really small compared to the U.S

Depends on which films. America has lots of scenic places and friendly people, but it's not all sunshine and roses. There's poverty, crime and ugliness, too. Hopefully, wherever there are problems, somebody's working on fixing them.

If you visit, we'll make sure to give you a smile. :-)
