I have one that has a light that comes on saying that its full - but it has no water in it. The owners manual does not have any tips on this problem. There are no local service centers for Maytag near me & we no longer have the receipt for it (its about 2 yrs old). No one will look at it with out a receipt of course.
Does anyone have any suggestions? We had some water in our basement from heavy rains in wisconsin & basement is very musty smelling & I would like to run the unit - but cant!

Thanks!

There is usually a float that is attached to the machine that will float in the water collection pail inside. When this float moves up as water from the dehumidifier is working, it will turn off your machine so you don't have water running on your floor. Make sure this float assembly is not stuck in the up position. If it is, reach in and gently pull it down so it rests in the water collection bucket. That should turn off your light, and make the unit work.

Take the water collection bucket out. Unplug the power cord from the wall. Look carefully at the area on the back of the dehumidifier where the bucket attaches, then look carefully at the bucket: what you're trying to do is to make sure that you are inserting and 'hooking' the bucket correctly. There's an activator contact switch that might be stuck on the 'in' position: try pushing and pulling it to make sure that it can move in and out. Also, if you have a floor drain, most of those collection buckets have a fitting on the bottom for a garden hose; punch out the plastic plug, attach a hose and you won't have to deal with emptying the bucket all the time. Occasionally add a capful of bleach to the bucket to stop the formation of mold or algae.

Pull the bucket out and then unplug the dehumidfier. Look inside and find the switch that measures the water level, some of them have a float on them. The switch may be hung up.

Check to make sure the float is hanging down into the pan and not hung up. For more go to www.hvac-for-beginners.com and check out the indoor air quality page.
