most of the time your first baby takes longet than your second or any there after... but some women just pop them out like its nothing!!!! ask your doctor if you should ride or call an ambulance. even if you drive ... you can turn on your emergency flashers and get there in time... i dont see it being a problem... most women are in labor for at least an hour or two before the acctual birth. the only bad thing is ... if you go to the hospital and its false labor... that was a wasted trip. good luck

Unless you're planning on moving closer, or change hospitals...there's no reason to be concerned...it is what it is. I'd say it's too far to drive yourself. But, if you have someone to drive you, then fine. If you end up having to call an ambulance, they will take you to the local hospital, not that one (unless it is the "local" hospital). So, just know what and the rest is what it is.
I drove myself to the hospital and it was about 20 minutes away. I just made it there and got out of the car before the contractions got bad enough to make me throw up (sorry). Ex-DH doesn't drive. If it had been any further I would have had a great big mess. My labor was only 5 hours from the very first contraction (they started at 3 mins apart, there isn't always 10 mins apart or even 5 mins apart) to pushing....which is very short for a first baby. Now I live farther away, so I'm kind of worried about any potential next babies! But, even with that, an hours drive would have been ok. Not comfortable, but ok. Just make sure you remember its a long drive and leave the house accordingly.

Yes honey that is way to far, especially for your first child. Because you have never had a baby you don't know what labor feels like. And is you can't read the signs that your body gives you (outside of contractions) you may not realize your in labor until it's almost too late. You should really think about finding a hospital closer to home.
Good Luck

many people live very far away from their delivery hospital. is this the closest hospital to you or is it just the one you have chosen? if it's the closest one make sure your husband or coach or whomever will be driving you has read up on birth on the off chance that you are a speed laborer and end up having it on the way to the hospital.
if it's just the hospital you have chosen and there are others along the way, know where they are and be prepared to stop if you feel that the baby won't wait until you make it to the hospital.
USUALLY most women have a longer labor/birth time than just one hour but sometimes it happens that fast.
good luck!

Every delivery is different. While first labors are generally longer, you could also go super fast. I had a friend that had her first in 45 minutes! If this is the only hospital option, then discuss a plan with your doctor as you get closer to the due date. If you do have a closer hospital it might not be a bad idea to go ahead and take a tour there too to see what you think. Welcome to the unpredictable world of parenting!

No. I live in a town where the only hospital that delivers babies is an hour away. We have a hospital here, but they dont handle the baby stuff. I think everything will be fine.

My hospital was almost an hour away with my 1st and 3rd pregnancies. With my second it was just 30 minutes away. Just be sure to know the signs of labor and when to recognize the time to go.

it's not a huge concern, however you should inform your doctors that that is the case. they will not be as eager to send you home in early labor or if a problem arises. with my daughter my hospital was about an hour away and when i went into labor they admitted me when my contractions started opposed to sending me home and letting them get closer together.
