Make sure it's not fingerprints on the dvd you are trying to play first. Also make sure there are no other programs running when you are watching a DVD and that the AC adaptor is plugged in. If you are still sure that the drive is on the wonk they are available from £60 upwards, depending on the model, from http://www.laptopbits.co.uk and others.

Knowing Dell and their ego-centric parts, you probably have to order it from them as opposed to getting and after market one that would work. Then again I could be wrong. None the less you can try doing a search in Google for DVD drives for the exact model and name of laptop you have or you could take the drive out and look for the Model # or Serial # and do a search on that particular drive for sale. Once you find the name of the Drive, you can try websites such as:
http://www.tigerdirect.com
*OR*
http://www.newegg.com
If that doesnt work, contact dell support and request the part from them. More than likely they will want your Service Tag # and Express Service Code which can be found by going to Start->Programs->Dell Accessories.
Good luck!

You could probably get the exact replacement part from Dell, but it can be pretty costful.
I would suggest you to buy an external DVD drive on USB.
You'll get a top speed DVD/CD burner, that you'll be able to connect to your laptop without hassle, or even to other computers, to make backups for examples.
You can get an external DVD drive for about $90 anywhere.

If you want to cheap out you can buy an external and connect it via USB, Or Firewire port. Otherwise you can talk to your manufacture and get yourself a replacement, But that would depend whether or not you under warranty. If your not you may be looking at some hefty price.
