It depends on how many years he has on his contracts. It also depends on whether or not he opts out of his contract, when he can. Then, the player may be restricted or unrestricted, it just depends entirely on what the contract says. For the most part, when a player opts out of his contract, he is a restricted free agent. I think most contracts make a player a restricted free agent.
