Formalized religion, much like government, is all about power and control of the people...

Nothing gets folks riled up as much as waving a flag or religious icon. Such actions often remeind me of colonial insects such as hornets and wasps that blindly react to any disruption of the useless queen.

Enlightenment values that a healthily viable fetus at can be yank out of the womb, brains suck out, and skull crush because some mother wants to go to a concert.
Or a 14 year old molested and is 9 months along and same procedure performed than turn back over to the molester not once but a couple of times.

The value that an illegal can rape children and ex cute kids in the street and is a protected person by the police and won't let the federal author ties aware of him.

The value can demonize Christians and Jews as closed minded but won't print a cartoon in fear of offending Muslims.

The value where 1/3 of the democrats can believe that Bush did 9/11 and other crazy conspires go wild.

The value that people want to control what is said on talk radio under the banner of "Fairness Doctrine" but not require any other media to have to follow it.

The shear mention of evolution as a theory is called teaching creationism is a value.

The value that is someone can sexual harress women in the work place is consider OK if that person is liberal.

The value to try to be their kids buddy to the point kids build bombs in their bedrooms and their parents ask them if they are and kids says no and they are ask about it again.
The kid goes on killing spree and people are in shock.

Raising kids to ingore police when they tell them to stop.

To declare someone guilty of a crime on public TV and when find out it never happen but destory the lives no apology even offer by the likes of Jackson or Sharpton.

Are those some of the "Enlightement values" you speak of?

Evangelicals have as much doubt about the existence of a deity as Mother Theresa. They are all praying for a sign, but until one appears, they have each other.

Do not underestimate the power of community. The idea of a secular, godless government is very disturbing to Evangelicals. They really believe that if children could pray in public schools, that if creches could be built in public spaces, and that if a few restrictive laws were passed, evil deeds would somehow decrease, if not disappear.

They have given us Prohibition, which gave us the Mafia. They have given us the War on Drugs, which has driven the price of poppy plants through the roof. Now the Taliban is returning to Afganistan financed by the culture and we may not be able to stop Al-Qaeda before they destroy our entire civilization. But that's OK as long as we can prevent pleasure for 90% of the users who never get addicted. But why they don't see addiction as a worthy punishment for misbehavior is beyond my understanding.

The values of Enlightenment will appeal only to those who have no need for a deity and and are able to assume responsibility for their own behavior.

So by using the word, 'restore', that means that Christian values have fallen out of favor, correct? Now, let's see how an adoption of enlightened values have helped the United States:

-Illegitamate births have increased dramatically
-Poverty is still alive and well, and bigger than ever
-Drug use has increased dramatically
-Paris Hilton gets paid for acting like a drunk bimbo
-STD's are rampant
-Our jails are overflowing
-Students are bringing guns to school and shooting their classmates
-Gangs are increasing the general amount of thuggery in society

I'm so glad we let go of those stuffy, Judeo Christian social mores, since all they ever did was make people miserable!

What Judeo Christian beliefs recognize is that personal responsibility does not naturally occur when there are no social consequences to bad behavior. I'm so sorry I'm not as enlightened as you, though...because your 'enlightened ways' work so much better now that everyone has cast off the old way of doing things.

I don't know about "enlightenment" values but I do know that the far left rejected the idea of intelligent design. That tells me the evangelicals were willing to bend and the left refuses to give an inch.

What would be an "enlightenment value"

You came from some goo, in a pool a billion years ago,

When you die, no body will care, cause you are nothing.

This tree has more value than you.

Your carbon footprint is killing our world,

that blob of tissue, with the beating heart, two eyes, two hands, two legs, a mouth pumping blood, it is nothing kill it no one gives a rat's rear

Are these the values you speak of????????

This from the side that wants to legitimize what most Americans think shouldn't be. This from the side that thinks protecting the unborn from death is imposing religious values on people. Someone needs to realize that the US is a country whose values are based in the Judeau Christian tradition.

If you cannot understand this country was founded on Judeo-Christian principals, and the lefts ever growing surge to marginalize everything religious, and proclaim everything anti-religious as enlightened, is destroying the social fabric of this country then there is not much point to us discussing this is there.

Because they didn't read their histories about what happens when religion and government get together. They didn't read about the corruption that infested every level of the church, the wars, the misery, and the lives lost. To them, religion is a way to dominate and control others.

Can you say; "New World Order"?
"Values" is only a word to be misused... much like the "N" word was/is.
