First off, I would tend to believe the police officer in this case (why would he lie? and he would know what conduct he was looking for, and not want to waste time on false arrests), and I think Craig should resign immediately.
But I'm a Republican. And most Republicans want this guy out of office also, for being a "pervert."
And we can all agree that this guy is a hypocrite.
But the the Democrats are supposed to be the party of tolerance, and it seemsa there's an awful lot of gay-bashing going on, here on this site and generally. One could just point out that Craig said one thing and (apparently) did another. But the gleeful repetition of the lurid details by some seems to indicate there's plenty of pent-up "homophobia" on the left.
So, is it OK to make fun of gay people, or not? I'd say no. It seems some (many) Democrats disagree.
I wonder how gay rights advocates feel about the Democrats over this?

Interesting. If he were openly gay, and arrested under the same circumstances, would that change things for people? Criminal activity is criminal activity.

Was Clinton also a hypocrite for supporting feminism while sexually harassing women? If so, why do Democrats still lionize him? And how could he not be a hypocrite?

I think the evidence amply shows that Clinton was a "lying hypocrite." I only bring him up because i don't see the same vitriol from the left about him.
Could it be that he's a Democrat? Or that he's straight?
Again, I think there's a lot of "closeted" homophobes in the Democrat Party.

Many interesting points here.
As for Clinton's impeachment, he was charged with perjury and obstruction of justice in a sexual harassment case. Again, I thought that Democrats held themselves out as the party of "women's rights." Yet they backed Clinton, he never resigned, and he is still many Democrats' hero.
Foley was gone withing HOURS of the story breaking. If one were to generalize, I wonder if one could say that Democrats are more "supportive" of their criminal and/or Immoral members than Republicans are.

As far as fundraising, again the Republicans are upset about this too. I doubt he'll last another week in office.

Just to be clear, I think ANYONE - openly gay, closeted gay, openly straight, closeted straight - soliciting sex like this in a public bathroom is guilty of a crime and of particularly SQUALID conduct, and needs to go.

The left also idolized (and still do) Clinton for getting 'lucky' in the oval office. So many times we hear the dems defending gay behavior and telling us what two consenting adults do is none of our business (that I agree with). More often it is "innocent until proven guilty". Not so much with the left on this issue now, is it?
And Scourge--what is your problem with Craig? That he isn't openly gay? Perhaps HE doesn't WANT to be gay/bi or what ever he is. Perhaps HE personally finds it immoral, but has gay tendencies he is trying to overcome. Perhaps he believes that it is morally wrong and is fighting his personal demons. Does that make you angry????? How about the man who is attracted to children? Should he NOT try to resist those urges that he himself probably finds repulsive?
One nice thing this new 'scandal' has brought about is a common desire by both the left and the right that this is conduct that can not be tolerated by our elected officials. The right has always demanded our 'fallen' leaders resign in disgrace. It seems the left has now joined us in that train of thought. Kudos left for not excusing bad behavior anymore!

Most republicans will not support Craig now because of his questionable behavior. Yes, democrats are hypocrites but also politically oriented monsters with no souls. Let us assume someone is gay and is in the closet, what business is it of anyone else? And just for the record it isnt hypocritical for a gay person to be against gay marriage. If a gay person secured gay marriage rights for themselves and told other gays they couldnt have them that would be hypocritical. Now saying you have to live a righteous life and then turning out to be a deviant is hypocritical.
Also, unlike democrats, republicans turn against other republicans that get caught in unethical or illegal situations rather than circling the wagons and attacking the accusers

Yes, absolutely. The Democrats position themselves as the party that tolerates gays. But when a republican senator is charged with attempting perverted gay acts in a public place, they leap all over him to criticize. Technically, by their party platform, they should be consoling Craig. Too bad Craig isn't a Democrat, then he'd be a 'victim' or a 'hero', I don't know which.

I don't know if Democrats are the "party of tolerance" or not but I tend to believe they are more 'relaxed' about personal behavior than Republicans, who seem to be 'uptight' and hypocritical.
This is just another childish finger-pointing game played by both corrupt, ineffective political parties whenever one of there opponents uses the wrong head to think with; it's a matter of 'damage control' over the lack of 'penis control'.
And opponents circle the shark-infested waters because they pick up the scent of soiled blood.
What Democrats and Republicans should be repulsed by is that this Congressman chose not to conduct his personal predilections in the privacy of his own home, but in a public bathroom! Apparently he couldn't control his perverse urges, and such outlandish public behavior speaks critically of all our so-called 'honorable' public servants.
I find it ironic that Craig, Foley and other assorted sordid Republicans got 'caught with their pants down' and no one demanded impeachment proceedings or even harsh legal punishment. Yet, when Republicans saw the opportunity to crucify Bill Clinton for an extra-marital affair with another consenting adult, they made a multi-million-dollar public spectacle of it, tried to toss Clinton to the dogs, and make themselves appear so 'holy' and moral. Truth be known, most of those Republicans who served on that investigation probably were titillated by all the erotica, and slithered back to the privacy of their own Capital Hill offices where they indulged in the same kind of behavior with their secretaries and interns. -RKO- 08/29/07

Bill Clinton was once ridiculed for arguing the definition of IS.
Now Republicans are trying to redefine the word HYPOCRITE.
And NO, it's not OK to make fun of gay people for being gay. HOWEVER it is PERFECTLY FINE to make fun of gay people who are HYPOCRITES.

Oh really? So why did RNC financed advertising portray him as pro-*****, pro-*****, anti-***** , etc. My FOCUS is on the FINANCIER, not on how he was portrayed so I'll delete the causes and groups.
The Gay Rights advocates PROBABLY WON'T be doing a lot of party shifting over this.

instead of continuing to play the"they did this-no,they did that" game, why not wade through all the bullsh*t and realize that were it not for sensationalist media practices, there wouldn't be all this hype. true journalism is about reporting facts without bias-but unfortunately, most media outlets and their "journalists" have sank into the morass of tabloid reporting. all trash and no talent

Some republicans are hypocrites, some democrats are hypocrites. You can't say that EVERYONE on this side is bad and EVERYONE on this side is good because that's just not true. That answers your question. Also, why are you talking about one guys hypocrisy and calling the entire democratic party hypocrites?

Then you don't understand. It's not gay bashing and it's the ultimate in Republican hypocracy.
It is Republicans like Vitter, like Bob Allen, like Larry Craig that are constantly pushing legislation against gays and telling people how to live their lives. Then these "anti-gay" leaders turn out to be gay or sinners themselves.
