Why is this so big because nobody in the world cares about this game?

For Christ's sake can all yanks please stop calling it soccer!

It's football. The reason it's called football is because it is played by using your feet. Only the keeper can use his hands unlike the somewhat ironically entitled American "football" where every bugger picks up the ball and the use of feet hardly come into the game.

The dismissal of some people of a game that is played by three quarters of the world just smacks of overbearing arrogance.

Because they can not be expected to have the ability to run for the whole game using skill and brain power.
Sorry but that yank game is so shite , have a look at Aussie rules and rugby and soccer!
Look at the speed the hits (with out all the padding) then ask yourself why are the Americans the most censored nation in the world?
This will answer why they care about college football , because they don't know any better.

If you want an actual answer it comes from 100 years of playing football. Children parents grandparents have all played the sport. Its something they can all gather and talk about and bond thru.

To say americans dont care about the FIFA is not entirely true. Soccer is a growing wildly in the US... It will take time. I am a coach on the soccer league we have over 200 children this fall. The same age group in football has 40 children participating...

There is a trend... just wait for it.

American football is an American sport. We've been fans for almost a century. There are always national past times that are incredibly popular to the populace of a specific country/region which the rest of the world does not understand. For instance, the British and their former colonies go crazy for cricket with little love for hardball, while the USA and Japan, amongst other countries, couldn't care a lick for a wicket but love baseball. Additionally, there are niche sports like curling for Canada which have a small audience.

American football, both college and NFL, are exciting to Americans because of the history of the game and the action-packed games. It is a propulsive sport with ample breaks for commercials and beer breaks. European football (or soccer) doesn't have an entrenched history with the USA, nor is the game play conducive for American to like it (longer set ups, low scoring, overacting on fouls). There are specific tastes between the USA and other countries.

Soccer (football to everyone else) dominates the world, except for America. America is dominated by American Football, whether it be college, the NFL, or Arena. I don't really know why, I just know American Football dominates American culture. That, and for some reason many Americans (myself included) don't like soccer. Oh, and America usually sucks in the FIFA World Cup anyway.

Thank your lucky start that Americans don't like soccer. Our 7th tier athletes compete in that game.
Pecking order
1. Football
2. Baseball
3. Basketball
4. Hockey
5. Track and Field
6. Curling
7. Soccer

If our good athletes competed in soccer, you can guess who would be holding that cup!!!
Enjoy the dominance, and let us enjoy our sports. Don't try to convince us to dominate the worlds sport. It's just in bad taste!!!

Note to soccer players: I don't really think your 7th tier, I'm just proving a point.

Because soccer has never caught on here as it has in other countries. You don't care for American football so don't American's have the right not to care that much about soccer?

It's a two way street.

Why do you care? I like college football because I plan on going to college one day and have been no many a college game and it is just fun. Why care what we like. I do not tell you what to like so do not tell me what to like. Everyone has their own opnion and we all should respect that!

Cultural phenomena. The game of soccer just isn't as popular (in the media) as it is in other countries. Sure, the popularity of soccer has risen each year, but that's among kids - not adults.

I love soccer and I wish it were more important to people of the United States. But it also comes down to what people are used to. And Americans are used to fast-paced, high-scoring sports. While soccer can be fast-paced, it's not high-scoring and that will always be a sticking point with Americans.
