The key no should be in the service book .If not remove drivers door lock and handle ( remove handle trim facing out as there is a screw underneath ) stamped underneath is a key no . you will have to look carefully as location varies .Late 1995 car used transponder key . You will have to check with dealer with Vin number . If transponder call a mobile car locksmith as new keys will have to be programed in. Any probs e mail me

She could get a lock and key from a breakers yard but they would expect her to buy all the locks as once she has the key the rest of the locks on the car broken for spares is no good to them. She can probably get the full set of locks and keys for £30 - £35. If she doesn't mind having 2 keys for her car then just change the lock on the drivers door, i would think it would be better to change them all. Check with VW to see what the price of a replacement key is first though.

Take the VIN number---it's on your insurance card---to a VW dealer and they can usually cut a new key from that info. The original selling VW dealer may also have the key code info on file with the original paperwork. Always have them cut two or three right away.

I am in the Vehicle Maintenance field and you MAY be able to go to VW with your VIN # and have them make you a key. If not you will have to get a lock smith. OUCH

It will probably be cheaper to replace all the locks from a scrap yard.
