How do you get a visa / green card to be able to work in the states? I live in the UK and have done all my life, but would love to spend time working in America, my mother says it's impossible to get into America and I would never get a 'Green Card'. I'm not loaded and don't have my own business, am just a normal working 25 yr old.
How do other people do it? Move / live / work in the states? Does anyone know what it would involve getting a visa / green card, or is my mum right in saying I don't have a chance?

Unfortunately your mom is correct it is pretty much impossible to get a temporary work visa or an immigrant visa.

For the latter you would need have immediate relatives who are U.S citizens - Grandparents, aunts, uncles, in-laws and cousins don't count.

For the former, you need to perform a prearranged professional or highly skilled job for a temporary period, or to fill a temporary position for which there is a shortage of U.S. workers.

The best way to get over to the United States on any kind of 'long term' basis is to study out here. Though it is an expensive commitment, but if that is an option that you are willing to consider then you can feel free to contact me directly and I will give you more details.

You wouldn't need a green card to work in the US but you would need a Work Visa. They are hard to get. How many people I see do it is they get jobs in large international firms and transfer to the States if they can.
The only way you don't have a chance is if you don't try!

According to the above website, ther are agencies in the UK that help find jobs in the US.

Good luck!!

america have a thing which is 'you can not take a job off an american'..therfor you cant go to america to simply work in a shop or bar..you must have a skill that allows you to work in a job that not everyone can do. like if you were a nurse, chef etc
