I'm 19 and recently started a new part-time job while I'm at university. I'm doing a tourism course and my aim is to move to Massachusetts in 2010 after finishing my degree. I know there is a lot of security measures after 9/11 but I'm wondering how easy would it be for someone of my age, in 2010 I'll be 21/22, to purchase in America. Any help or advice would be appreciated.

The first time it is a little overwhelming, but I think it is easy as long as you have the proper paperwork and income. Once you get past it, you will think it is easy too. Just prepared to sign alot of documents and provide alot of documents. It is very rewarding. Best of luck to you.

Well it would be easier for you than for us living here since the government gives out money to people for coming here to start a business, study, or anything else they want. Otherwise if you were from here you would have to show a work history of stable employment, a regular income with recent check statements, put 20% down , pay an extra $3000 to have a bunch of paperwork done like title searches, processing fees and all of the other fees tacked on.

It's much easier if you can pay 20% of the price of the house, and you only have to borrow the other 80%. You probably have never established credit with any American business, so you may not have a credit report to determine your credit-worthiness. I assume you have a good credit history in your country of origin. Your age is irrelevant. Security issues are also irrelevant.

Housing is very expensive in and around Boston. Elsewhere in Massachusetts, housing is more affordable, but salaries are often less.

Good luck!

If you can afford it, it's not hard. But from what I see, property on the east coast is really, really expensive, at least compared to where I live in the midwest. Maybe you'll have a great job when you come here, or you've got a lot of money already. Otherwise, you may have to rent for awhile.

Claymore, buying a home is open to everyone who can afford it. So if you qualify for a loan here, you can buy a home.
