My granddaughters want an MP3 player for their birthdays and I have no clue as to how they work or what comes with them when you buy one. How do you download songs onto one? Please give me as much info about as you can, thanks.

Depending on their age and how responsible they are with their properties. MP3 players can get quite expensive. If they are young I would start them out with an iPod shuffle which holds around 1GB of music, that is of course their reason for wanting an iPod. If they are at least pre-teen or a teen ager a iPod Video is great and about the same price as iPod nano. The difference is the nano is smaller but I find the video better since I can download video, movies, music, and pictures on it. I have the 30GB and it seems to hold well over 4000 songs, 10 movies, over 200 pictures, 3 games, and there is still memory to spare. I prefer iPod since it is very easy to use and you can get free "podcasts" off iTunes which some people are learning different languages, etc. from them. iTunes is also compatable with the popular Limewire (where people download illegal free music), and with iTunes you can also purchase music, movies, audio books, etc. As a tip, I would purchase either a car charger or a wall charger since the only cable that comes with the iPods are a USB cable which not only allows information to be dowloaded onto the iPod but is the only way to charge it.

Firstly ask at your local electronics or music player store. Then try and find one which stores a lot of memory [Not just songs because mp3's can also store files for homework and what not]. it will usually say on the packet " 54 GB....plays 100 songs". or at least something like that.
An mp3 player comes with a usb cable which you will need to plug into the back of your computers monitor. To put songs onto an mp3 player stick the usb cable (which will either be attached or you may have to manually attach it via a small plug on the mp3) into the computers monitor (a monitor being the thing you use to switch on and off the computer). Then click on my computer then look for a file with a little (E:) next to it or with it. It may also have a picture of a cd with it.Open this up and then from wherever the songs are on your computer copy and paste them into the file.

For downloading songs.....you can download them illegally on things like limewire and kaZaa but becareful they may come with virus' and it is an offence if you get caught.

Dont worry about headphones because all MP3's come with a set of headphones.

Sorry i hope it isnt too confusing =[ But you will get the hang of it and it is easier than it seems.

you dont need to worry about getting music on the mp3. All mp3 player comes with their own software that makes it easy for music transfer

your best bet is to get the mp3 player and go by step by step installation. They are very easy to use if you give proper attention to the installation.

ipod or any sony mp3 player are very easy to use. I have Sony because of the battery life.

If u were specific on a particular make then it would be easy to put you through step by step music transfer

A Zune would do nicely, or the rather popular iPod.

They usually come with a USB cable, and a set of headphones.

For downloading music, you could go to Download.com and look up Cabos.

Cabos is a music downloading system. It runs off of LimeWire, Torrents, and KaZaa.
