I prefer to pose as I feel at that moment.
And then, they tell me "Why do you look so sad?"
And I ask you "Why should I look so happy?"

Because I was told to smile and I get so scared from that stick behind the camera.
I hate it when my picture be taken and really have just few photos. I prefer to be behind the camera and that stick be mine.
PS: “ cheese “ in German means “ Kässe “ and it doesn’t work with photos :-)

it's a fact that when people smile they are considered more friendly, acceptable and accepted. I'm sure photographers have your best interest in mind when they ask you to smile.
The only pictures I've seen in straight face are ancient times, passports, models, and some people from countries overseas. Maybe they didn't smile because of the bad teeth. "Maybe" smiling, just as clothing and the way we stand or walk, is judged more in America than anywhere else.

In a couple of years you wont remember a little thing that ticked you off or ruined your day.Why would you want to look back and wonder why you look upset? Its normal just to fake a smile and get it over with but you have to live with that picture and people will probably see it too.

I am sure, my dear, you are looking great even when not smiling. I think it is a common belief that when we smile we look more beautiful. It is not always so. You are doing the right thing to keep the mood of the moment when being photographed.
The lady above, who thinks that smiling is seductive..... Not only the smile, my dear, but wit too! You have them both.

because everybody looks good when they're smiling.
besides, pictures are a token of your memory. why would you want to remember that you were sad. if you don't like to smile in front of a camera, just turn away. and you won't remember that bad day.
:)

I would allow only if they took natural pose. Reminding them of candid camera is much better, you only smile after your photos were taken.

I am like you,too Alice. I like better when people don't tell me "hey look, smile", "you don't smile", "why don't you smile?"
I like my photos better when they are taken when i don't know there is someone taking a photo.
