They have already sent $96 Billion to New Orleans and another $10 Billion is allocated, that is just the Federal Tax money, not including the billions of insurance dollars and hundreds of millions of charitable contributions.
The problem is New Orleans is a corrupt black hole for tax dollars.
The local government is responsible for allocating the money and making things happen on a local level. But the geniuses in New Orleans keep electing the same inept thieves.

No, tax dollars should not be used. But please understand that this is not saying that New Orleans ought not to be rebuilt. I understand its importance to shipping. I also happen to think that it has a wonderful culture.
Tax dollars should not be used because we can not trust that they will be used responsibly. You can NOT separate the pork from the spending. It's in the nature of politics.
I believe that public spending (with all its pork and corruption) crowds out private spending. Eliminate promises of free government handouts, and you'll get private capital flowing in because much of New Orleans IS worth rebuilding. True, some projects will not be undertaken. But we should ask why they SHOULD be undertaken if no one is willing to put their own money at risk.
Incidentally Don C, we could have built levees like what are put up in the Netherlands. Those plans were rejected for environmental and other special interest concerns [1]. Those are the strings that come attached to government money.

They do waste millions of dollars, and after three years, there are still people totally homeless in New orleans. I think the Government should stop taxing us, and start making better decisions. Bush really has not done anything over in iraq. At first i was all for the war, but now he has just sent us up shi t creek. HE has spent way too much money over there, and americans are paying for his shitt y decisions!

No. I do not think the federal government should spend any more money on New Orleans.
A huge area was affected by the hurricane. Emergency assistance has been rendered and state/local governments must now sort our their movement forward.
I wish them all the best, though I would personally think twice about moving into an area naturally prone to flooding. Not that anybody should be expected to have had such foresight pre-Katrina, but now there is no excuse.

New Orleans is one of the most important ports in the US and needs to be not only rebuilt but improved so it can withstand category 5 hurricanes. The city can't operate without people and right now there is no place for them to live and no services like hospitals and groceries to serve them. Yes I think we should be spending alot of money in New Orleans.

The fact they already have answers this question. According to Bush today, its the locals who have sucked up all the money and the city still looks like a waste land.
Louisiana is known for its corrupt politics...they voted back in the same stupid Mayor who put them in danger to begin with. I say, stop spending money there and let the city disappear under water. BTW..did you see they are not going to fix the levees until 2015?

I'd rather they use my tax dollars for Katrina relief than for any other relief in foreign countries. If we can help fight AIDS in Africa (which is more futile than rebuilding a city that has been there for over 200 years) then we can help to rebuild New Orleans.

Of course our tax dollars should pay to rebuild New Orleans, but we shouldn't have to pay for all the pork that's being attached to it.

it's a proven fact that more of our tax dollars are going overseas than to new orleans or any other state here in the us.america should come first in any thing that our tax dollars are spent on.instead of sending it overseas to help foriegn countries who don't even try to help themselves.while we are over there dieing for them.

The Federal government has historically provided some relief from disasters. I suppose that on balance this is a good thing, although it is not entirely obvious that that is so.
