I bought a Saturn at the end of June from a used car dealership that my family has bought 2 cars from before. He pretty much sold me lemon because my family trusted him tot give us something good like he has before. A saturn is not a bad car but the one got is. I've had it's oil changed, it's been in the shop for work, and when I washed it, all these marks and things showed up on the hood and such. Also the service engine light is on and I took to the shop and they didn't know what was wrong. I'm going to have it looked at by another shop Friday. Anyways I HATE THIS CAR and I want something new (different). I still owe a little less $5,000 on it but I want to trade it in for something that reliable. I drive almost 40 miles to college and I need something that will crank up. How do I go about trading it and having the dealer maybe pay it off and give me something different.

If the shop you took it too couldn't diagnose the reason for the check engine light being on, then by all means take it somewhere else. They make little hand held computers that will read the fault codes stored in the computer that will diagnois the problem, not necessarily the individual component causing the problem, but certainly why the light's on. In addition, some GM vehicles (yours is) will display the light when enough miles have been traveled to need an oil change. There's a special way to make the light go out and this may be the only problem. Marks on the hood? Sure, no one likes that but greater damage may occur after some of your friends at a drunken frat party set on the hood, spill beer or puke on it.

Oh they will pay it off all right, but they will roll the overage into the new car and you pay more for the new car. But hey, if the peace of mind is worth it, go right ahead.
