Yes, get a 2nd opinion from a mechanic you trust. My experience with mechanics is they pick the highest price item, then may or may not replace that, but will charge you for it.

The ABS System is not required by law, however, it is a feature that will add significant safety margin, specially on wet pavement or ice. Decide if you want to keep it.

If you decide that you want to keep it, I will recommend that you get a second opinion what it is wrong with it and the cost of changing it, $ 1,500 is a significant amount of money for that car.

The failure can be the modulator ( you can find it used for $150 or pay $500 for a new one) or a different part of the system instead, like the accumulator ($200, new ) a sensor ($80 each, new )

By the way, If you decide not to keep the feature, remember that by taking the bulb off you will be a tampering with a safety warning and will be legally liable if someone gets hurt in your car believing the abs brakes are functional. I would just leave it on.

Wrenchmeister is pretty much correct---take it to another shop for a second opinion/diagnosis and maybe see if a used part is available. Or disable the system and put a warning label on the dash that the ABS does not work. Also, ABS system has nothing to do with the airbags deploying or not---two different systems. C'mon Jody.

Removing the bulb or putting tape over it does not fix your problem. Your ABS system is critical to stopping correctly, disabling the system puts your life at risk, how much are you worth ??? more than $1500.00 I am sure...if this price is too high shop around or ask the mechanic if he can get a refurbished unit...good luck

lots of questions! base line....the lines/pipes can get replaced at a smart cost. I paid $40 5 for the aluminum pipes from the broking and replaced them myself. After that, you will could have the gadget vacuumed and refilled with R132A, costing around $200, customarily because of the quantity of time it takes to do the technique. another aspects, filters, condenser, would could get replaced, yet all-in-all you are going to be out around $350-$450 whilst it particularly is executed. Take it to a incredible vehicle AC save, not an oil exchange place.

Put some tape over the abs light, or remove the light, keep driving. Same thing with the check engine light

No safe alternatives. This means that the air bags may not operate properly in an accident. If you ignore it and someone in your car is injured during an accident and the air bag could prevent it, regardless of fault, they can sue you for their injuries and your insurance company will not defend you because you are required to maintain the safety equipment on the vehicle.
Also, the comment on the check engine light. Cover it up and when the malfunction becomes severe enough to cause the light to flash, don't go crying when it would have been a few hundred dollars to fix the problem and now you need a whole new engine at $8000. or more. Lights are there for a reason.
