How much has actually been done to help or cure Muscular Dystrophy? Has all the money over all of these years really done so little he has to keep doing this every year for all of these years or is he just financing his hair color, face lifts, lifestyle and giving these children fancy products to pacify them and make them believe there actually getting better? I mean come on look how long it's been? Face it Jerry Is a washed up actor who is living off of the lives of sick children!

Mr. Lewis is doing this for purely altruistic reasons. He raises money for research to help these children. The telethon money does not go to line his pockets. I am sure he has enough money of his own. He has not stopped doing this annual fundraiser since he started and has even worked through personal illness. Please refrain from criticizing what you know nothing about.

He is the face of the telethon.
Maybe you do not like the person. But research has been done.
I volunteer for this event. Both in NYC and now in Las Vegas.
It is a benevolent cause. So sorry you have disagreements with the event and the host.

If it wasn't for Jerry these kids wouldn't be getting the help that is needed and as being a washed up actor I believe he is in his 80s and is a superstar in France.. I am sure the money helps. but you do ask a great question contact the MDA and ask

WHY is he still doing this?! How much is actually being done?! I can't belive what I am hearing! Do you know nothing about what this man has done for this disease! Him and Dean Martin have taken this under their wing since 1952. It was in 1952 that Jerry Lewis established the MDA. Jerry Lewis established the association and your wondering why he's still doing it?! Jerry is dedicated to this fight and these kids and he is going to keep doing it, as long as he's alive and as long as there is not yet a cure. Jerry Lewis said it best on the Dick Cavett Show when an audience member asked if he was doing the telethon next year. That was in 1973. He said "we hope not, we hope we don't have to....but....if we have to, we have to." In other words, he's hoping they won't have to do it because he hopes there is a cure by then. As long as a cure is yet to be found, he WANTS to do the telethons. He loves doing the telethons and he is 1000% dedicated to this fight. If it were not for Jerry's dedication and hard work, the MDA would not be raising all this money, they would not be this close to a cure, there would be millions of kids afflicted and no help for them. We would be sitting here watching these kids and familes suffer. Why does anybody do anything? It doesn't matter the reasons why someone chooses to do something, it matters that they are doing something! Jerry won't tell why he decided to take part in this fight for that very reason. People tend to judge you based on those reasons and they shouldn't. Your deciding to actively help and that's good enough. I can tell you this, his dedication and devotion to MDA is immeasurable, it's priceless! Never have I seen one person so dedicated to a fight as I have seen Jerry dedicated to MDA and his dedication is GENUINE!!. Back in 1973 on that same Dick Cavett show he said that he puts in about 40 straight hours of work into this telethon, including the airing of the telethon itselt . That's 40 straight hours of no sleep. That was in 1973, can you imagine how long it must be now? What's more, he doesn't get paid and he doesn't want to get paid. He's here to help the millions of kids and adults afflicted with this disease and he wants to see the money go towards helping the people who need it. I don't see any man or woman putting in 40 straight hours of no sleep, running a telethon, and not getting paid for the hell of it! He is doing it for these kids. You make the comment "I mean come on look how long it's been?" Do you think we can find a cure overnight?! It takes years and years of research. Yes, this telethon has been going on since 1952, but why don't we say that same thing about cancer research? Autism? Parkinson's? Prostate cancer? breast cancer? alzheimer's? Those causes have been going on forever, why don't we stop the research already, we're never going to find a cure. That's what you are saying about MDA. MDA is not as well know has those other causes so this telethon is needed to make people aware, to get the help that is needed to do the research. If it wasn't for Jerry making us aware, this might very well have been a lost cause and we'd see millions of people die from this with no hope of getting better. Thanks to Jerry, we are so close to a cure. Things cost money. The research is not cheap. They're not looking for a cure for the common cold. They are looking for a cure for a disease that kills people and the testing is expensive.
You might not like Jerry Lewis, but don't go criticizing the work he has done and is doing! That's a low blow to him, to his fans, to people and kids affected by this disease and to the families who have family members affected by this disease. He is an amazing person for everything he has given to the world, for everything he has given to these kids, for everything he is doing for this disease. Jerry does not deserve that and the kids and everyone affected by this disease do NOT deserve that!

For those that are criticizing Jerry Lewis and what he's doing for the MDA, THINK about that poem! We can't imagine what it's like to be in the shoes of people affected by this disease. We can't even begin to imagine how horrible it is. But to know that there is someone out there that cares enough to do everything that Jerry Lewis doing, is priceless to these families. It gives them hope where hope might otherwise be lost. So don't go criticizing the work and everything that is being done because you don't like the person behind it. Whether you like the person or not, it's not fair to comdem all the work and all the research that has been done and all the hopes that are being created because of this dedication. I'm not telling that you have to like Jerry Lewis, but respect what he is doing, because his devotion and dedication is doing a hell of a lot for the MDA and the people affected! We all owe Jerry the world, for everything he has done.
Watch these two videos. This first one from Larry King has Jerry explaining that he loves doing these telethons and he's never going to stop. He also explains how they are so close to a cure and there could be a cure for it in his lifetime. (Warning, Jerry does make a comment that is not suitable for kids, if there are kids around you). In the second video, forget the words, listen to his tone, look at his face, Look....in.... his....eyes. This is not the face of a man who is doing this for money. As I said before, Jerry does not get a penny for this, nor does he want to. His tone tells you that he is genuine in this fight and he is going to do whatever it takes to put an end to muscular dystrophy!!!

He doing it cause he loves these kids. Special children are born everyday and the cost of taking care of these ANGELS is over whelming. Jerry Lewis is a god send, I hope he never stops his telthons

I HAVE NEVER BEEN A FAN OF JERRYS WORK BUT I RESPECT HIS EFFORTS IN THIS AREA....HE HAS BEEN DOING THIS SINCE THE MID FIFTIES AND HE DOES NOT PROFIT FROM THE EFFORT....NO MORE THAN DANNY THOMAS DID FROM HIS EFFORTS AT THE CHILDRENS HOSPITAL...IF YOU DO NOT LIKE IT YOU DO NOT HAVE TO WATCH IT.
