that could be sold or given away to someone who would really need it or use it? I have watched these shows when they take stuff out of houses just destroy it instead of passing on the good sense to the world about recycling.
Did you notice they also have ugly stuff to say about "This outdated 1950's home will be changed into a sleek new look."
Then the next program says "This home will be changed into a beautiful 1950's look!"
I guess I am just getting old and cranky! But it just seems like all these people on all these shows try to act so 'uppity' or 'with it' or something. What happened to common sense? Where did all the REAL people go?

I agree... I certainly see that on the TELEVISION. And I don't think your reaction is just due to "age"

BUT, since I have done remodelling for friends and family, AND I drink beers with a number of contractors, I will say that those actions are a television phenomenea.

ALL the contractors I have worked with have in their contracts that THEY get the old cabinets !! THEY then resell them or donate them... if the cabinets are SOUND and solid wood, they send them to a friendly cabinet-maker. Same with Windows, Counters, Tubs, etc...

About the ONLY thing we really DESTROY is wallboard.

I rent right now, but my brother's ranch is a WEALTH of recycled STUFF.... a wood-stove, a walk-in freezer with a reclaimed compressor, shelving built from scrap... all the ranch-debris (fencing: wood and wire) gets recycled. In fact, we helped a neighbor tear down a VERY old, unsafe barn... and 80% of the beams, timbers, and siding will be used in my brothers NEW barn.

Well it is only TV so you have to take that into account. A lot of times in tearing out things, cabinets, etc. they will be damaged so badly that it would be more expensive to repair and reinstall than to buy new ones. The one thing that I do totally agree is that they have no respect for vintage things. Just because a house was built in the 50's doesn't mean that it doesn't have things that are classic and beautiful. The new modern ultra sleek look isn't all that they seem to think it is.

Maybe you are not seeing the real people because; they do not exist, they are just putting on a show or "airs" ('uppity'). A lot of people are never happy with what they have and always want more or they want something different because they are easily bored with what they have. Perhaps the saying "the grass is always greener on the other side of the fence" is the attitude of a lot of dissatisfied people.

I totally agree. Those cabinets could be refinished or given to recycling centers. It's a total waste of resources.

Yeah, those shows make me sick. Some of the idiots think they are remodeling, where all they are doing is painting.
I believe that if you can't learn something handy from a remodeling show, the show should be canceled.

I'm with you. You won't find many 'real' people on tv. It is sad they don't try to recycle or promote Freecycle or Habitat Restores.

That's probably none of your business. Sometimes as you get old you start getting nosy. Try to be a little nicer.
