It's possible, but not practical.

It costs something like $10,000 or $20,000 per pound to send something up in the space shuttle. That bag of garbage under the sink would cost maybe $100,000 to send up.

Then it would likely be in orbit for awhile, and be a risk for a collision with another shuttle mission, or a satellite. One of the shuttles came back with a big pit blasted out of the windshield. It was caused by a flake of paint, that was travelling at 17,000 mph. Five lbs of garbage would have gone right through the shuttle.

Finally, when the orbit decays, it'll come down into the atmosphere, and burn up. It would then be in the environment, just as surely as if you had saved the money and burned it in your back yard burn barrel.

We actually have dumped a lot of trash in space already and there are lots of inactive satellites that are now trash, they will eventually fall back to the earth and burn up. In terms of using space as a dumping ground for waste, as in garbage - it would be way too costly. In terms of dumping human waste, NASA has designed things to collect that and return it to earth.

Yes. But the transportation bill would be impressive; it costs around $100,000 a pound to get something into low earth orbit.

Do you know how much money that would cost. The earth would get smaller, since most of your resources would disappear too

it has been done.. but not waste actually.. broken satellites are some examples they are called space junk... Blasting our garbage to the sun seems nice!!
