Studies show America ranked 25th when it came to education. 11% of americans 18-24 couldn't point out North America on a world map. 69% couldn't point out England. And 20% of Americans believe the Sun orbits the earth.

That poll was taken south of the Mason-Dixon line. Trust me.
I was educated in the North before moving South. If I had to do it over again, I would move back north after having kids.

Education needs a lot of improvement. In the old days, when teachers taught the students the 3 R's. students would learn their science and geography lessons. It seems now a days, they just want to push the kids out the door as soon as possible.

OMG-I saw this study. It's a real shame, but the Federal government cutting funding for education for decades as well as low teacher pay do not make more educated students.
I also think that college should be absolutely free to any American who wants to go.

Taken in isolation, it's just as valid to say the sun orbits the earth, as it is to say that the earth orbits the sun.

I don't believe it.

Why don't the people I know fit in these "statistics"?

I travel quite a bit, and the people I work with and know certain are better educated than this.

I think these "studies" are fake and/or highly spun.

It's like the news. 20 perfectly intelligent people standing around....and they ask the dumbest person they can find to comment on the news event. I suspect the same happened with this "study".

Did you see Miss South Carolina at the teen Miss USA pagent? That's what I think of the US education system.
