it depends on the woman. some have light ones with minimal cramping and others have very heavy flow with horrible cramping. sometimes it can make you sick even. birth control helps with the cramping and makes your cycle regular

My periods are painful. I usually have a day where I feel really awful. I will have diarrhea, headache, nausea and cramping. I usually just take some Tylenol and take a nap. The actual period lasts from 5 days to a week. I have a really heavy flow. My period will usually go away for a couple days after I have it and then come back for a day or so.
Let's just say it's not my favorite time of the month.

PAINFUL!!! i started when i was 12, and by 13 i was on the pill because the doctor thought it would take the pain away!!- did it hell!! the only good thing about periods is that if you have a male boss (which i do thankfully!!) you can have more days off with stomach cramps & he won't give you any agro!! I get into really bad moods aswell (you don't want to mess with me!) i think everyone is diffrent though- girls who have no cramps- i hate them!! x

Heavy and painful, not the periods themselves, but I have awful cramps, headaches and backpain. Not to mention I'm ten times b*tchier than normal. How I hate PMS and periods.
